    30-30 or 7mm-08

I was pondering this today as I was finishing up the last 7mm-08 loads. Which of these would make a better whitetail cartridge within 125 yards? I have the 7mm-08 worked up, but if you feel the 30-30 would be better, which load would you use? The 30-30 is a marlin lever action. Thanks WM

    Which Bullet for the .30-06

Larry, before I started reloading, this is what I used for my -06: Elk: Remington Core-lok 180 grain killed many. The blue box 180g rounds actually work well and killed a cow elk with it. Cheap and effective. Mule Deer: Federal 165 Vital Shock BTSP Hornady Superformance: Will never use nor...

Our XCR like these loads: 200 grain accubond 94.5 g. retumbo 3.60 " OAL Fed 215M Match primers 3143 FPS Nosler or RP cases gives the same results 180 grain AB 98 g. retumbo 3.60" Fed 215 M primers 3196 fps 200 grain is the most consistent round in this gun for us. Our chronograph is less than...

    How Often Do You Tumble?

Thanks for the input guys. I usually have a lot of time to kill when I hit the bench, so this topic crossed my mind. The main reason for the tumble in my opinion aligns with Guy Miner. But, living in the hills, I also like shiny things. Now that I have the loads developed, the rounds...

    How Often Do You Tumble?

This is my process: Clean (Wash) brass --> De-Cap Brass ---> Clean (Wash) again ----> tumble ----> Size Brass. My Question is this. After you size your brass, do you re-tumble? I saw some brass that was done this way, but he was selling it, so his purpose was to pimp it out. He also added...

    Brass Life Expectancy

How many times do you reload your brass? I understand there are variables that contribute to the equation, but typically do you condemn them once a certain number of times fired or?? I ask this as I have some RP brass for my 300RUM that are on there 4 cycle and are just showing signs of...

    Price Check 7mm-08

I am trying to get rid of a Savage youth edge with a Bushnell scope. What is a realistic price for this gun. We took it to the range for the last time yesterday. Thanks, WM

    Interesting results from die comparison

At the time we bought our last sets of dies, we could only get Hornady dies for our 7mm-08's. We experienced the same thing as you. We recently switched to RCBS and the groups got more consistent. So look like the hornady will be going down the road...

Some load help on my 7mm08 BLR

We tried a few rounds/loads in a my wife's Weatherby Vanguard youth model. I am pretty sure the barrel is about the same length as yours. The best groups came from this combo: 140g. Accubond 41.5g. varget Winchester LR primers. Sammi max Coal. I will get the exact measurements when I get...

What To Avoid When Hand Loading!

What not to do: Reload when there is a lot of humidity in the air. On the music, I listen to it when I reload. It helps me concentrate.

    Case Cleaner Questions

All- I have about 400 rounds of -06 and about 200 rounds of 300RUM that are once fired and ready for the bench. Normally I would grab the bottle brush, get a pan of warm soapy water and have at it. But, that's not gonna happen this time as I need to get moving on getting these shells and get...

    why magnums?

After crippling two elk and only recovering one with the 270, I went back to the 30-06. Never had that problem before nor after going back to the -06, once I sold the 270. I am going to use the weapon that make the quickest most humane kill in my hands. For a elk rifle, I am going to use my...
