I was surprised how effective that little 120 bt is. I have a buddy in the TX Panhandle that has some MLD ground, and needed to cull some does. I think I tallied 17 does that weekend, all with a 7-08 and 120's. We gave the meat to Hunter's for the Hungry and they were almost as thrilled as we...
Got it heading my way, along with Leupold dual dovetail bases, Burris Signature rings, VX3 3.5-10x40 CDS. Already have a supply of Fed 210, Fed 215M (use with Big Game), Varget, Big Game, 120 BT's, 140 AB's and partitions, 150 BT's......let the waiting begin.
I am going to agree with Fotis on this one. I've had a couple of rifles that did this, and tidying up the bedding fixed it both times. That would be my guess anyway.
Fixing to order it. What bases are you guys using? I'm thinking of going Leupold duel dovetail (50042) w/ Burris Signature rings. Love the inserts in those rings.
Why do I keep lusting after one of these things? I've never even seen one in person, or much less shot one, yet I keep wanting one even though I have a really accurate Tikka T3 in the same caliber.
Why should I buy one?
Why shouldn't I buy one?
Oh, OK.....I see how you are.......rubbing it in our face that you get to go hunting already, and us guys down South have to wait a while still. Shame on you.
Good Luck and keep us posted! It's all jealousy from here!
Congrats on your new rifle ridgerunner. This N48 Patriot in 7mm08 has my attention as well. I wondering what is the OAL/mag box constraints for this particular rifle? Those targets posted earlier got my attention too....are these things really that accurate consistently?
The more recent version (not sure exactly when they were changed) is tougher than the original 150BT by a good bit. I first tried them back in the late 1980's and couldn't get them to stay together very well in a 7mag. A couple of years ago I used them again to kill a big 190" mule deer. It...
A little jealous here DrMike! Great looking sticks, and what a way to spend a day! If I may ask you a question please? What sets apart the FN produced M70's from the rest of the M70 family (excluding the Pre 64 if you don't mind). I've been eyeballing an FN 7mm08 NIB and no little to nothing...
My hunting buddy anchored this big mule deer buck from a whopping 40 yards with his 7STW and 140 AB's. Impact velocity app 3300fps. Bullet retained slightly over 60% of it's weight even at that close distance. AB's rock!
You can't go wrong with the proven .243, but I am very biased towards the 7mm08 with 120 ballistic tips. The 120's are very tough, and perform great on deer of any size. The 7-08 and 120's are very mild.
I asked the good folks at Nosler the same question about "where the heck are all of the 7mm a60 AB's"? They're reply was that they have been out of production for a few months and are playing catch up. I believe they said production will start up again in August. Production of the 140's...
Gotcha! FWIW, I've always found best accuracy in my 7mags when I'm near max pressures/velocities, no matter the rifle make. I also usually start off .010 off so there's only one way for me to go (seating deeper) when trying to shrink groups. If you're seeing ZERO signs of pressure, you could...
Long time reader and lurker here, first time poster. Looks like you're really onto something there Darkhorse. What velocity are you getting with those loads?
I've been loading for and hunting with a 7mag for almost 40 years. I didn't like the first generation BT's, but the CTBT's I've tried...
