No better powder for this than VV N560 like Nosler states in the load data up to 44.5 grains BUT next to impossible to get to I still use IMR4831 up to max 42 grains as have been doing for many years. IMR4831 pretty much has to be weighed as it doesn't meter well for me at all. But is super...
Nothing to lose to seat deeper and see. I usually test shoot at 50 off first then go deeper to 75 then 100 off. I do that before I go closer after shooting many of them in different guns.
Worth mention as well that with all IMR4831 loads from 243 up I have found that the nearer 100% case fill...
Good Luck. I have seen this too with Partitions in not only the 284's but other calibers as well. Don't have any idea why, but know that the 160AB's will give near exact same on game performance with higher BC and very easy to make shoot just like the game kings. It the reason you can't find any...
Took time out today to check my go to load for the 243 and ANY animal. 44.5 gr IMR4831 at 65 degrees went 3,120 out of 20" barrel savage with 85gr Barnes TSX at 2.645 OAL per Barnes load data.
6 shots no waiting between, barrel got HOT and at 200 yards went .805 moa with 4 of the 6 under .5...
Note the list is sorted in order of fastest to slowest velocity. I do not use compressed loads at all either, but I go down the list and start with the load nearest the top that gives 90 to 100% case fill, this can change some if as you change OAL but it is a place to start.
i.e when I look...
Barnes 85gr TSX, absolutely lethal!
My top 2 picks for terminal performance in the 243 are 85gr Partition OR 85gr TSX. I have never had a gun that wouldn't shoot one or the other but rare to see a gun shoot both well, for whatever reason.
I just asked for QL to give you some powders to select...
I have tested it in both these guns and have one conclusion for sure, it seems to like fire!
Both guns were tested with Fed 210's and Fed 215gm's. The 215gm's groups were almost 50% tighter in every weight charge tested. It shot very well in both guns with WLRM's also but averaged about...
Been very pleased with it in my 26" barrel 7 Rem Mag with 140 AB....at 71.2 grains it gives 3,200fps and is averaging 1 to 1.5" groups at 200 yds consistently. The only issue I have seen with it is that I do get more smoke from muzzle with it than powders I have used in the past, guessing the...
Thanks, that is about what I thought. Goal velocity in the 3,250-75 range should be just right. Will probably shoot a couple across the magneto speed at about 68gr to see where fps/grain is at and adjust from there to start.
Thank You
Have been running one since late February and it has been worth ever penny. Has not missed reading a shot and is easy to use. Does change POI but if it shoots good groups with it on the barrel then will shoot same (or better) with it off. Have not worked up any load that didn't shoot the...
That was me.
I agree, it not all about the nodes but beg to differ about 25fps ES being unsuitable for longer than 800 yds on a pie plate.
First the 140AB is not going to accomplish the feat of staying on the plate at a 1,000yds on most days anyway, but ES won't be the culprit, the lower BC...
I would have to give RL26 a test for this as I have had really good results with it across the board in multiple calibers.
Alliant 2015 data say max it at 60.8 grains with Fed 210 primer and velocity at 3,022 in 24" barrel with 150 partition.
Bet you can stay good on pressures to near 2,900 in...
Don't own one of course but have some interest in data to help decision making. Pie in sky but has me thinking.
Does anyone have enough info on the case dimensions to run a QL on the 28 Nosler with 180 grain berger match hunting vld?? Thinking OAL would be near 3.5"
Yep, what he said. I have all the tools to get the length correct to lands, but then when I have that length figured out I start the AB's in any version at .080 off.
IF that don't shoot then I go .100 off before I go closer........ then it is to .050 off, have found most AB's in general like...
