243 Deer Bullet?

I was able to find a box of 95 grain btips and hope to load some up soon. What powder and speeds should a guy try and look for?

When my father taught me to interpret load data when looking for a load he said find the powder that provided the highest velocity, with the lowest charge weight and lowest pressure. With 50 gr H20 cap, 52000 CUP or 60000 PSI pressure Max you start looking from there. Our go to powders were IMR 4350, W760, and H414. Max charges were 42grs or less, max velocity around 3100fps , and max pressures 50000cup or less.

7828SSC is another that worked really well for me with the 95 BT. It is also a Nosler Most accurate powder I believe. I wouldn't think you'd have any trouble getting that bullet up over 3000 in a 22" or longer barrel.

47 gr 7828 scc with the 95 or 100 gr BT/PT. 3100 + fps and deadly

Out of my Weatherby 24" Vanguard S2 243 I have two loads that print within 1/2" of each other and hold sub-moa 5-shot groups.

Load #1 is for the 90 gr AB - 43.5 gr IMR 4350 - 3175fps
Load #2 is for the 85 gr Partition - 37 gr IMR 4064 - 3250 fps.

Took time out today to check my go to load for the 243 and ANY animal. 44.5 gr IMR4831 at 65 degrees went 3,120 out of 20" barrel savage with 85gr Barnes TSX at 2.645 OAL per Barnes load data.

6 shots no waiting between, barrel got HOT and at 200 yards went .805 moa with 4 of the 6 under .5 moa. If you don't mind time to weigh powder it is a great load, just won't meter well, but WILL shoot, and terminal performance is 2nd to none to 300 yds.

I would try IMR7828 with the 85gr partitions or H414/W760 with magnum primers. You can use a Permanent marker on the ballistic tips, turn the 95gr tip black.

I have a lot of IMR4350 so I will start there with the 95 btip. I will let you know how it goes.

I would bet it wouldn't take much. Most of the time you have to work to make a 95 BT not shoot real well.

Around 42 gr of H4350 should do the trick. I get 2950 fps with a 100 gr bullet with this load with sub MOA groups from a 22" barrel so you should be able to push 3000 fps with the 95 gr BT.
