That's the reason ODFW is in such trouble...they can't recruit new hunters, and they're managing people and dollars, not wildlife anymore. Why do you think our application fees are at $8 a pop now? Revenue has to be created from somewhere.
The topic I'd add to your list would be the length of...
I've found that H-1000 and Barnes Bullets work the best in my Weatherby Mark V. I would really like to shoot Nolsers in it, but I just can't get them to shoot in this rifle.
I'm getting sub-MOA out of the 100 grain TTSX and 115 TSX using 74.0 grains and 72.0 grains of H-1000 respectively...
Everyone has the right to their point of view for sure...That being said the 165 Sierra Gameking is quite the bullet in my opinion.
After hunting with the 165 Partition in my .30-06 for years I wanted something more accurate in my .30-06 A-Bolt. On a good day, I was getting 1"-1.25" three...
Applied for 6 different hunts, and 5 different species...and didn't draw a thing...that's pretty discouraging. Oh well, looks like another year hunting blacktails and second season spike elk...
Congrats on your draw results!
The older Fullfield II's that were made in America have a lot better glass in my opinion. The new Fullfields built in the Phillipines, have a distinct blurring towards the outer edges. I wouldn't purchase another one.
For the money, buy a new Redfield by Leupold. They're cheaper than the...
Barnes TSX hands down...
I'm currently loading them in 4 different rifles and they all shoot incredibly accurately.
One of the rifles is a Weatherby Fibermark in .257 Wby Mag, that I just couldn't get to shoot. After 50 plus different loads I finally tried the TSX and TTSX...both now shoot...
I'd go with the Marlin. If you're looking for something close to that price range and a great bang for your buck, I'd also look at the Weatherby Vanguard.
It should be an interesting hunt. I'm planning to hunt some creek drainages that spill out into the Pacific Ocean, that are claimed to hold quite a few bears.
I'll be using a Browning BAR Safari, in .338 Win Mag. Will head out this weekend to determine which load I'll use. It's between the...
Oregon's Spring Bear season is right around the corner...I drew an Alsea/Stott Mountain Tag and I'm planning to hunt close to the beach. It should be an interesting hunt for sure.
With the spring weather starting to finally get nice it will be a great excuse to get out in the woods again!
Glad to hear you purchased one as well. I have to say that I'm really impressed after going to the range. The scope tracks well, is really clear, the adjustment dials are hand-adjustable, and the price was definitely right. It's a great looking scope as well.
Being made by Leupold, in the...
I'd have to agree with the Weatherby...I currently have one chambered for .30-06, topped with Leupold rings and a new Redfield 3-9X40mm with the Accu-Range reticle.
It's not a SUB-MOA version but routinely shoots handloaded 150 grain Hornady Interlocks between .5" - .75" groups at 100 yards...
I just purchased one of the new Redfield's made by Leupold, and I have to say I don't think you can beat it for the money. I bought the 3-9X40mm with the Accu-Range reticle. It's very close in quality to the old VXII's in my opinion. Clear to the edges, matte finish, finger adjust dials, and...
What are you guys seeing for powder availability?
Our stores in Western Oregon are still really short of anything. I've been able to pick up some RL 19 and H1000 recently, but haven't seen IMR 4350 in months.
Any word on when or if we'll be back to normal with respect to primers and powder...
I'm shooting 225 grain TSX's in my BAR over 72.5 grains of RL 19 and it's shooting really well for an automatic. I'm getting groups around 1.5" at 100 yards.
This same load shoots between .5" - .75" in my Browning A-Bolt.
I would second the comments about the TSX...it's an amazing bullet with unbelievable performance on game. I've found it to be extremely accurate as well. Currently I'm loading TSX's in my three main guns:
257 Weatherby Mag - 115 grain TSX & 100 grain Tipped TSX
.30-06 Springfield - 165 grain...
