Hey what in the world is the red smudge on the one target? I will upload some target photos, but are not as impressive. It was fun and couldn't of asked for better weather.
I am still trying to sort out a powder and load for my .308 BLR. I was wondering which powder of the two (IMR4895 and H4895) you would choose? I know that they are not the same, but are very close in burn rates. These two powders are what I have narrowed down to sort of based on availability...
Yah, I'm a little confused. If you want to kill paper then use a non-Nosler, but if it is game you want to drop is there any other that does as good a job as a Nosler?
Very nice looking buck. No need to worry it is alway fun to try to start new streaks. Maybe start a new streak of trying for a 4pt buck the next 3 yrs. Wait thats when the big guys wander out in front you. Okay forget that streak. I'll keep thinking. Lol
Gerry, don't post too many pictures of what we hunt here in BC or more people will want to come. Lol. That looks like some great bear habitat there. Looks like a few drainages I have been in here down in the kootenays. Best of luck in getting that draw.
Wow guy that is a fair amount of .308 ammo. That is more than we have stocked at my office presently. Just a curiousity note when you were in the comps and even now what is your round count before a cleaning. I had a guy at the range tell me it better to be clean after every few rounds. I...
I really like your way of thinking. Any gun when harnessed down can most likely shoot better than I will ever be able to shoot it from any sandbag rest. Like you say a rifle that I am not able to handle and shoot with full comfort and confidence will not be in my safe. I think it will be very...
I will have to see if I can find the post that I read where someone shot a Weatherby in a lead sled and the stock fractured as well as the scope had moved in the mounts. I will always just use sand bags. Once rifle has been sighted in then I will shot in all different positions to simulate...
Well I guess I will be leaning towards trying the IMR4064. If that does not work I will go back and play with the IMR4350 and try H4350 as well. Like I said the IMR4895 was worse than the Varget for any groupings. I might load some IMR4350 rounds anyways to run them thru as soo as I look up...
Mike, if you were to pick one of these powders to try first which would it be..IMR3031 or IMR4064? I shoot 165gr NP's from my .308. There is a bit of a spread as to burn rates. IMR3031 is a faster burning powder.
When I was at the range I was talking to another guy who had a .308 there and he said he thought that the Varget was his end all answer, so he bought 8lbs. He told me that he has never been able to get his rifle to tighten groups like when he shot IMR3031. This BLR rifle of mine shot sub 1"...
Well today I finally got out to the range. Had to walk through 14" of snow in some places. Temp was a nice -2.5*c, great for getting the barrel to cool down between groups. I have been playing with powder and seating depths with my old .308 Browning BLR for about a year now. I decided to try...
I totally agree with you on that. I had a similar incident over the East Kootenay area when I was deciding on a shot at a bull elk at 300 to 350yds. The regs had changed to 6pt or better. As I watched that animal until I was able to confirm he was only a 5x5 I heard some 8-10 distance shots...
