Got invited to my buddies new lease this past weekend and had an opportunity to fill a tag for a coworker needing some deer meat. I had my grandpa's 30-06 but wasn't comfortable shooting it much past 200yds since I didn't have much trigger time on the rifle since getting it after he passed in...
Wasn't my dad's rifle, but I did manage to inherit my grandpa's rifle when he passed in February 2023. My dad worked a ton when i was growing up and we hunted when we could but grandpa was admittedly the hunter in the family and killed far more than his share of deer, squirrels, and rabbits...
So I've been looking at getting a new rifle for next season and I am leaning towards a 7mm Rem Mag.
I would like a do all bullet that will have me covered from the muzzle in the woods or under the stand but I also would like a high BC bullet to shoot across some bean fields at 300-350yds...
I've got a X-Bolt Hells Canyon Speed on order with my local gun shop and a Leupold VX-5HD 3-15x44. I'm looking for a good set of mounts for the rifle. I've narrowed it down to Talley or Warne but would be open to other 2pc options, not really looking for a 1pc setup on this rifle. I'm...
Found about 20 130 AB’s in my bullet box from my 270 WSM days and loaded them up. I’ll shoot them over the next week or so and see how they do and report back.
Loaded them 57-59 grains of 4831sc, 3.30”, CCI 200 primers in once fired Hornady brass.
I’ve seen several postings here and on other forums of guys saying Accubond are too tough for deer and don’t expand much or don’t cause enough trauma to put a deer down quickly. Any validity to this or are Accubonds going to behave somewhat like a ballistic tip and cause lots of trauma but hold...
I’ve been shooting 130gr and 140gr BT’s and SST’s. They kill deer quick and work ok on hogs but I’ve found them to be very destructive around bone. I try to keep em tucked behind the shoulder but occasionally catch the offside shoulder and they tend to not do the best. So I’m looking for a new...
Thanks for the chart steve.
I shot 3 or 4 different loads Monday morning. 58 shot the best with a group of .61" center to center. I had 2 in 1 hole and 1 slightly outside. Going to load a couple more at the specs above and a couple with an overall length of 3.34" to see how the rifle...
Would somebody be able to run a quickload chart for me on a 270 Win shooting 140 Nosler Ballistic Tips?
I'm shooting them from a Tikka T3 (22.5" barrel). My load uses Hornady brass, CCI 250 mag primers, and H4831sc powder. Overall length is 3.32" Thanks in advance.
Well, I finally found some free time to work up some loads. The rifle has shot factory ammo fairly well. I knew I was going to handload for the rifle so I ran several boxes of Hornady American Whitetail through the rifle to break in the barrel and zero the scope.
I tested several loads and to...
I traded my mag primers for CCI 200's. I was going to load some rounds last week but I am positive my scale is off some. I am waiting to borrow my buddies electronic scale to see how far off my scale is and I will also use it to load a few rounds in the next weeks.
I did get a chance to...
A good friend of mine has some CCI 200's he will trade me for my 250's and I did find some Remington #9-1/2 primers. I would rather use the CCI's or Winchester Large Rifle if I can find any while running errands tomorrow.
I am shooting 130 Accubonds. They shot great in the x bolt, a little...
I loved the WSM and it was accurate. I wanted a tikka and had an itch to go back to a regular 270. A coworker of mine offered to buy it since she was in the market for a new rifle. She made a fair offer and we both walked away happy.
I recently sold my Browning XBolt 270 WSM and purchased a Tikka T3 SS 270 Winchester. I was going to load some rounds tomorrow and Thursday afternoon. I have IMR 4350 and Reloader 22. I was planning on creating several small batches (5-6 rounds each) and see what the gun likes. I was taking...
I think I will go with the DNZ's. I put a set on my dad's Weatherby and the seemed to work out great and thus far have held up great.
I did put a set of Talley's on a buddies 22-250 Remington 700. They also worked great but I think I like the all 1 piece setup of the DNZ's. Now I have to...
I purchased a Tikka T3 SS in 270 Winchester the other day and need to get rings for it. I do not like the factory rings and want to try something different.
I am trying to decide between the DNZ 1 piece mounts or Talley Lightweight rings. How do they compare in terms of strength and weight...
Well its a landslide for the Vanguard.
Weight is not an issue. The rifle the Vanguard is replacing is a old M77 Ruger that is heavier then the Vanguard so that's not a problem. He is really looking for a better trigger and better shooting rifle all around.
