I had a '79 CJ5 before i bought my '84 CJ7, so I know what you're talking about, since I'm a wee bit taller but significantly larger than you, Scotty. I didn't have a pair of Levi's that still had the left back pocket intact due to the curve that sticks up in the doorframe.
The only bad thing I can think of is the lack of slippery bullets. If you burn out a barrel, you're doing something right!
Though I'd rather buy a .240 Vanguard, myself, since I already have a .257 M700 in a McMillan stock....
The place I used to work had an FJ. I can see the appeal, but for me, as a pretty tall guy, it just didn't work. Trying to see traffic lights in town quickly became a literal pain in the neck.
Probably the way to go, assuming you don't need an off-the-shelf rifle... otherwise, I'd go Creedmoor. Easier to manage COAL with long, slippery bullets.
Really? I always thought the .quarterbore WSSM was like the the 4'10" tall bodybuilder chick I would see at the grocery store. Shaped a little differently, but probably interesting to try out....
Dang, Charlie, that's a bummer! I always thought that was the preferred DG scope, so I would expect more eye relief than that.
I already knew about Leupy fudging the magnification numbers, though.
I dunno, man. Shotgun reloading is a whole different world... much lower pressures; wads and hull design have a huge impact on pressures; wad compression also has a huge impact. I'm a total wuss when it comes to reloading shotshells.... Mainly lowish pressure trap/skeet loads in very popular hulls.
