True. So instead of the magazine being the restricting factor.......it's the SAAMI throat?
My question would then be: "Why are the rounds throat-ed for 3.4 inch COAL?"
Possibly so the throat is set to attempt to accommodate a wide variety of bullet lengths?
Thank you for the reply.

Is there a commonly used bolt action rifle that has a magazine with a cartridge limit of 3.34" or........am I missing something?
WHY do most the long action rifle cartridges have a 3.34" suggested maximum COAL?
I've only shot 700 Remingtons 90 percent of the time and don't understand this...
Sounds like it's going to be "put up.......or shut up" in 3 weeks.
The "news" is Trump caved........and that's not ACTUALLY correct.
I just listened to the speech.
He clearly stated he was reopening the government and getting people paid ASAP was a priority but the three week limit is imposed...
Arguing about each one is not now, nor was it ever intended to be part of the answers I was asking for. No one should feel any cartridge is being discredited.
We all have opinions on subjects and that's all that was being sought out. No one is attacking any round.
Food for thought though...
A good point but like you mention, I don't shoot enough to worry about enough erosion to make a hunting rifle inefficient. Others may and target shooter do......but I guess I didn't specify I'm referring to hunting rounds.
Thanks
God Bless
Ok. Probably a subject that's been beat to death but this forum is the only one (that I'm in that I know won't turn into a flaming war....like some.) I would ask for opinions.....so you are elected by default.
Ignoring the blown out wider shoulder diameters for increased capacity that go with...
Just curious about something and some info.
IS the base of the body on 30-06 ACTUALLY .370 when you buy it.
I find so much brass is undersized. Even the rim itself.
I have Lapua and Norma 9.3x62. The Norma actually measure .476-.4765.........the Lapua does not. .472".
Using the Lapua may...
Im in agreement with heavy for caliber (preferably RN or Semi Spitzer) loaded 2700ish fps, but hey, I'm old fashioned.
I saw RMR had pulled 150gr RN in .277 available.
If going in good elk territory......I'd probably just stick with partitions though. Not saying others wouldn't work just...
Like many, I've spent a half century or more hand loading and way too often I see "blanket statements" posted that some feel are important and (by definition) always applies to all rifles and all rounds and all bullets, etc, etc.
A whole bunch of times such are old "rule of thumb" axioms that...
Another question. Maybe I'm missing something here. 58K, DrMike? Where is that from please?
SAAMI shows 62k for the 35 Whelen by itself. ( In their tests, in their chambers, etc etc for an average. Not carved in stone universally.)

For seating depth, I am using the parameters listed in the QL data above.
I realize ALL cartridges can vary a few grains rifle chamber to rifle chamber and brass mfg to brass mfg. I've seen capacity claims that are 5 grains different (but in reality, that isnt tons)
I am just curious as to...
Not to hijack this but I've got questions on the results.
A What is the overall capacity for this case? I've read (more times than I recall but a lot) where the AI of the Whelen didn't increase capacity much at all. These numbers put the total capacity around 76 grains by my calculation...
I'm seriously, for the first time in my life, hoping to put money back (after my current project.....hehehe) and finding something out of state........maybe try for a moose permit in Maine or something.
Being poor and a hunter.........ugh......not so great.

Hoosier myself so thought I'd chime in.
Rifle cartridges allowed was updated a couple years back to .243 bore (PRIVATE land only, not state owned) and up but we did have some odd rules.
The current "limitation" gives me a chuckle lol
The cartridge must have a minimum case length of 1.16...
Lots here are more qualified to reply but, someone correct me if I'm wrong saying QL data is NOT "load data" per se but a powder comparison display showing APPROXIMATE charges, pressures and velocities that are strictly mathematical in nature.
It takes but a quick look at the comparisons, and...
Just passing along info gotten from both sources.
Alliant said "The VMD of RL22 (Volume Mass Density that which Lee uses) is 0.072."
Ramshot said "The VMD of MRP is .070"
Both said MRP was "slightly faster".
Old info I had on RL22 gave a VMD of .0697. I still take "tech information" with a...
One email from Ramshot (who handles a whole pile of "brands", including Norma) and also from Alliant.
Both say they are not the same powder. Ramshot says MRP is "slightly faster and is a different density"
Alliant said they are " Different propellants and need to use the proper load data...
I agree with all that but does not the same apply to 414 and 760 as far as lot to lot changes?
Evidently whatever volumes were input into QL has MRP denser going by what I've seen with the same percentage of fill showing a bit more powder in MRP vs RL22.......and, so far, all I've seen show MRP...
I keep seeing over and over that RL-22 and Norma MRP are identical powders.
But......
I ALSO keep reading QL data print outs with both on the list for the cartridge........and they are NOT side by side and normally, not even close together like 414 and 760 almost always are.
QL states it's...
