    1911 slide lube

Boomer, I would check the Wilson Combat products. They have a selection of lube that covers any possible situation. I use the Wilson liquid grease in Florida because of temperatures and it works great.

    Underwood Ammunition

Roughly a month ago I heard about this ammunition and its performance. I did quite a bit of reading including reviews and decided to purchase a couple of boxes for my .357 Sig. Well let me tell you, this ammo lives up to its reputation. the Sig ammo is 125 Grain bonded Gold Dot. The case is...

    The head shot...

Excellent comments Guy. When I became a Range officer/instructor on our PD the first place I was sent for training was one of our local (2 hrs. away) firearms manufacturers schools. They provided excellent training/gunsmithing courses. A comment by one of the instructiors sticks in my mind to...

    Meat Damage on Deer

I've taken a lot of deer over the years with three calibers: .35 Rem (200 gr. corelokt) , 30.06 (165 grain either Sierra Gameking or Partition) and 7MM-08 (140 grain gameking or partition.) By far, the .35 has less meat damage. The old adage about eating up to the hole is pretty accurate and...

    S&W 586 357 Magnum

Jerry, I carried the 686 (stainless version) on the PD. Qualified with it many times and found it a pleasure to carry and shoot. The extra weight tames a full house .357 round and I found mine to extremely accurate. In the 6 inch version my take would be "more of a good thing".

    Scope power ?

I've stayed with the smaller/lighter scopes. The max I have is a 3X9 Kahles on my Kimber Montana .300WSM. My .338RUM wears a 1.5X6 Zeiss and my other rifles are in the same ballpark. The bigger scopes/weight have a tendency to walk with the heavier calibers and once you get over 9X heat mirage...

how much faster can you push it?

I've never found a need to run maximum loads. If I'm working up a new load I start just above minimum and work up until I find good accuracy. I've never found an animal that could tell the difference in velocity.

How many types/species of big game have you hunted?

At 72 years of age I've been around for awhile and have had the opportunity to hunt: whitetail moose (got a Bull in Maine after waiting nearly 17 years for a permit) Black bear Elk mule deer Axis deer...

    Lee Factory crimping Die

What the Lee factory crimp die does is take the side of the case and squeeze it into the bullet with the top portion giving it a slight roll crimp (or more if you screw the die down further). I use the 124 grain Ranier flat Point that is designed for use in the .357 Sig.

    Lee Factory crimping Die

AFG270, I've also read where .357 Sig reloaders use the .40 S&W Carbide sizing die for the case and then use the .357 Sig die for the neck operation. If you plan on going that route I would lube the inside neck as stretching is definitely "not" going to help in this case. I don't mind the extra...

    Lee Factory crimping Die

Now that I've started reloading my .357 Sig I have found that the major issue is bullet slippage. There just isn't much of a neck to hold a bullet in place. I used the standard .357 Sig Hornady case crimper that came with my reloading dies and it works, but not too well, especially with the 124...

    Nosler 9mm 124 grain JHP

Jim's right, I've done that on numerous occasions. Work up carefully and you'll come up with a satisfactory load.

    BFR

interestingly enough I enjoy shooting my 30.06 Competitor arms pistol. I purchased it many years ago with the intent of taking it deer hunting and possibly some larger game. It's got a nice muzzle brake which really mutes the recoil but the noise is ungodly. It is deadly accurate with 165 grain...

    Case Neck Tension

Jimbires, what might be happening is a galvanic type action between dissimilar metals. I've seen that occur on other types of metals. I don't know where you store your ammo but if it's near electrical current that might be the issue. I don't know how old the brass is but I've been told by...

    .357 Sig

Thanks Vince, I haven't seen too much Accurate Arms powder in my area. Hopefully the next gunshow will turn something up.

    Goose Hunting

When living up North (Connecticut) Canadian geese were plentiful and were hunted with a Remington 1100. Load was either a 2 3/4 express with No#2 shot or a 3 inch with 2's. Modified choke worked better than full. I got my fair share and they did taste good.

    .357 Sig

Finally got to my buddy's range and fired 124 grain Ranier bullets with 6.4 grains of Universal Clays at 10 Yards. Accuracy was excellent, recoil was negligible, and feeding was excellent. I noticed that Sierra is now producing 125 grain Sig V-max bullets with a cannelure that I believe are...

    Sheep Hunting Today

Actually Guy, I found out a long time ago when photographing deer that they apparently know that you're holding a camera instead of a fire stick. I didn't believe it at first but it always seemed to work that way.
