Jim, I've been pretty much staying with 225 grain bullets in my .338RUM. I've been using IMR4350 and accuracy has been excellent. I have a couple of pounds of Retumbo and would be interested in trying that with the 225's if you have the info.
If I remember correctly Craig Boddington really enjoyed hunting that area. He was also very successful in bringing game home. Boddington did make a number of comments about the altitude and it would behoove anyone going into that area to check with a knowledgeable doctor. I think we're talking...
Well guys, I bit the bullet and picked up a 226 Sig in .357 Sig. I already have the dies including the .40 caliber dies so the choice wasn't hard. What's interesting and Fotis mentioned it was that all I need to do to switch to .40 caliber from .357 is change the barrels out. Even the magazines...
Thanks Fotis, I've got quite a few 30-30 cases that will fill the bill. I just returned from the range and used my chrono to see how well the Leverevolution worked with 36.8 grains and I also tried your load of 37 grains. The 165 grain Hornady FTX bullet was used. Very pleasant surprise. The...
Another thought came to mind that I would appreciate some input on. I've read from three different sources that 30-30 cases can be used successfully to make .32 special cases. I've found that .32 cases are not easily found and as a result I purchased loaded ammo to shoot and then reload the...
Fotis, thanks for the video, that's an eye opener. Scotty, I'll see what I can do on a water jug test. All in all I'm very impressed so far with the Hornady FTX. Next project is shooting them in my .35 Marlin.
There's quite a bit of info on the Gold Dot 124 grain +P as a self defense round (many police dept's use It) and the results have been quite satisfactory. I use the short barrel version in my Sig 938 and feeding and accuracy have been excellent.
I "think" I've got basically everything I want other than a Marlin 39A lever rifle. Every gunshow I attend I'm looking but no luck yet. If I can "fall" into one like I did with my Model 94 I'll be extremely happy.
Finally got a chance to go to the range this morning and have a report on my model 94 and what I ended up with in regards to loads and the results. I tried the .32 special factory loads with 170 grain Remington corelokts and ended up with a 2 1/4 inch group at 100 yards using the Lyman Peep...
This post is hilarious. It get's funnier as you get older. I keep my powder stash separate from the rest of my reloading equipment and it wasn't too long ago I was looking for some IMR4320, a powder I don't use very much. I shuffled the powder around and at the bottom of the "pile" was an...
Now that I found the Model 94 .32 special I mentioned in another post I will be hunting with it. Installed a Lyman model 66 peep and I'm ready to go for a sight in. My Maine Uncle took a deer every year with his 30-30 and never seemed to need anything else.
My first rifle was a Marlin 336 "Texan" in .35 Remington that shot "lights out". I saw one at the local range, handled it and for my deer hunting (maine) it fit the bill perfectly. My first bolt rifle was a Rem 700 stainless in 7MM Mag. It was one of the first ones out and was black in color. It...
Good read Guy. When I was the instructor for our PD I also taught at night and the proper holding of the light. I really wasn't too impressed with the lights affixed to the gun, the reason being wherever you pointed the light the gun barrel was also facing.
No, OAL is the same, width of the case is the same. The only difference is the shoulder has been moved up so it is 50 percent closer to the base of the neck than the original .243 shoulder and it is sharper.
