I started in 1961 with a 22 single shot potting rabbits, squirrels and grouse. By the time I was 15, it was deer and bear. Now, it's moose, elk and deer. Don't need any more bear rugs.I still enjoy blasting gophers all day. I was also on a trap line at a very early age getting beaver, muskrat...
It was the Winnie, Europe. It was a dream to shoot. I loved taking that to the range and shooting reduced loads. They were warm, but nowhere near full power. I always carried full power loads and would fire maybe 10 or 15.A few fellows wanted to shoot it, and I would put a full power load in the...
Having hunted bears for over 45 years, I became real fond of the 45 70. I initially hunted them with a rolling block with a 32 inch pipe on it loaded with a 500 grain hard cast. That accounted for a large number of black bear, moose, deer and everything else. I love a rifle that will drive a...
Pike rule! Caught a 30 pounder a week ago, and huge fillets. Went on Tuesday again and got another 18 # one. Love them in the spring and through the ice.
I have been using the WLRM primers for everything from 25 06 to 458 Win mag for lots of years. Never have had any problem with them. SD is 9 to 12 fps across the chrony. accuracy is excellent, and I have never had a primer failure. Can't ask for more than that.
Excellent topic. I have no qualms about using a 25 06 or 257 Weatherby for elk or moose, but it has to be a broadside presentation, or I will pass. I would limit myself to 400 yards lasered. I have a severe allergy to being the village idiot that took a poke at it at a bad angle, then occupying...
270 Weatherby magnum does it all for me. I have sold all of my mega cannons, as there isn't any mammoths or dinosaurs around anymore. My back won't take the beating from the big stuff either. I miss my 458's etc, but I just couldn't justify keeping them if I can't shoot them. I haven't ran...
I have shot whitetail with the 180 grain out of the 300 mag. Don't worry about shooting a scrawny black bear with them. It will fall over, and your work will begin.
Elk steaks rubbed with olive oil, garlic, cumin and ground pepper done in the oven with deep fried taters, fried onions and mushrooms and a side of peas. Home made chocolate cake with butter icing for afters.
I have used the WLRM primer for a lot of years. I get a very low SD , and they plain work. If it works, I don't try and fix it anymore. Standard or magnum, they are lit with with Winchester magnum primer. Doesn't matter if it is 100 degrees or -50, no failures.
I've killed a few with it. Loaded 120 grain Speer and never looked back. A buddy that I load for has taken all of his moose with it. Sharpen your skinning knife and have at it. We want pictures.
In my 50 years of reloading, I too experimented with a few hot rod loads. I found that the 458 would group well with an OUCH load or a reduced load. The Weatherbys would not shoot worth a crap until loaded to the gills, and the 25 06 was the same. I found a nice lite load for the 300 mag that...
I have had great customer service from Ruger over the years. They have always been very courteous and have never charged me for any parts that I needed for my #1's. Weatherby has also treated me with the same respect and great service. The other manufactures should take note of this.
