Make sure you have the bullet seated 15-25 thousandths into the lands for the fire forming. Use a 80-90% charge load for the standard .257 Roberts in your fire forming. Too many use a light load and don't jam the bullet into the lands far enough on the initial firing. You will get a nice...
Welcome Joe -
I have a 7-08 built for mountain hunting (meaning light weight) that has accounted for more large game animals than any other caliber in the safe. The caliber really exploded after the 300 yard target shooters started winning matches with it on steel. It is a very under rated...
What brand of brass are you using? Have you measured neck thickness on a wide selection of this brass? Lapua and Norma make the most consistent brass, but there is still a need to turn the necks if you want uniform neck tension on all cartridges. Most serious match shooters turn their necks even...
Redding and Forster make good bushing dies. The Forster dies come with 3 common bushings used for the caliber you are purchasing. Redding S-type dies do not come with bushings. Match them up with a micro top seating die and you have the ability to make match grade loads.
Whiddon also makes good...
Yep...I'm an odd duck. I have 7 of the calibers listed. But than, I have never been main-stream or drank marketing's kool-aid. Fortunate thing for most of us, we can load for those calibers no one wants to make ammo for.
Here is one for the list 7X64 Brenneke
Great work of art there Joe. Question for you:
Were you able to have Bartlein duplicate the original shape of the pre-64 barrel and use the old stock? I am going to re-barrel a pre-64 and want to keep the "bulge" in the barrel where the rear sight was on the barrel.
Looking forward to seeing you Jeff. That rig should be fun to check out. I will call the Gunstop and see if they have any .223 brass. I'm figuring you want Lapua. They are supposed to be getting in 350,000 105 hybrids in the next week.
Are you shooting the 6BR Remington or Norma? There is a slight difference in case capacity normally. My first 6BR was a remington that liked 30 grains of varget/107 SMK, with a 12 thousandths jump. The 6BR Norma i shoot now likes 30.4 grains of varget with 105 hybrids and 15 thousandths jump. I...
  You know me too well Scott...
Congrats on a great rifle. You saved huge $$ over what it would cost to build that rifle from scratch with the action used. Good choice on bullet selection as well...good luck finding them  You better start watching every internet store out...
USMC89 shoots a 6X47 Lapua for most of his matches that are similar to what you want to do. Match that caliber up with the 105 berger hybrid and you have a combo that is tough to beat. I shoot 600 and 1000 yard matches with a 6BR norma and a 6BRX using the same bullet. Both use the same Lapua...
Hi Jens -
I had a "made in Germany" 240 back in the 80's that would not shoot either. I tried everything possible from bullet seating depths to as many different powders as I could afford to buy. Nothing seemed to work. Best groups at 100 yards were in the 2" range.
Have you put a bore scope in...
I will be interested in the twist rate for this one. I'm sure it is being made to shoot the 129 ABLR, but there needs to be a fast twist rate to handle some heavier bullets.
I was getting 3340 with the 130 Scirocco's in my WSM, but backed off to 3300. As Scott said, this isn't much better than...
Both MagPro and R25 shoot well in my 6.5 WSM. I use 270 WSM brass to neck down. Best accuracy combined with velocity in the 130 weight bullet was with the Swift Sirocco and 140 was the Berger hunting VLD.
Thanks for posting this review Guy. I just picked up a Rock River "operator" model and wasn't sure what to put on it for optics. I have another RR that has a Leupold Delta reflex red dot, but thought I wanted something with a little magnification on this one. I swore I would never have any...
The clearest, sharpest glass in a scope for me is either S&B or Premier. Steiner has made some significant progress in their glass (especially tactical FF plane scopes) in the past couple years. The high end Zeiss, Kahles and Swaro all fall into the next category.
Application matters...p-dog...
I spent over a year doing research on the two calibers before deciding on the 338-06 back in 1991. For me it was more about available bullet selection and down-range velocities than which caliber would be better for larger NA game. There wasn't much load data at that time on the 338-06, so it...
This is a tradition the night before the opening of the deer season at our camp as well!! Gotta be able to laugh at ourselves and enjoy family.
Congrats on a dandy buck!
Spot on Jeff...I just ordered a Bartlein medium palma to finish at 30" that will cost $325. Chamber and threading is $225. Most "hunting" barrels for big game will never need to be replaced in a lifetime based on the number of rounds fired. If it is a p-dog/target barrel that has 1000 + rounds...
