Rol, you're changing too much at a time to know where the goat is. Run a ladder or OCW at Nosler's book. Then, play with the depth to get the final load.
I had to play a little to get a good load with 4451 but it was definitely there.
I clean my barrel after every range session using Wipeout...
In my quest for the ever smaller group that I don't need for anything I actually shoot, I've become obsessed with neck tension (and concentricity, but that's for another post).
One thing that I'm playing with is "clean" cases that have been resized and wet tumbled to shiny goodness vs...
What a great opportunity.
I like the caliber. Nice, big holes without a great deal of fuss. It's not a flat shooter way out there - for goats & such I would definitely go with the lighter bullets. You don't need a 300 grain bullet to drop a goat!
A zebra shot last week with a 180AB from a .30-06 shouldn't have died from the wound due to poor placement, but the bullet came apart and one piece caught a lung and the liver. We couldn't see any reason why the bullet should have come apart - but it did.
Same person shot an oryx with the same...
I use 55 grains of IMR 4451 (very similar to 4350's) with 180 grain Accubonds. It is a great load doesn't copper up.
56.5 grains with the 150 Partitions is a good lighter weight oad.
I use it with 180 AB's in the 30-06. It performs as advertised. While you do get less copper the reside is quite dirty.
I've got some loads in the 6.5x55 to try, too.
They hover around 2600 fps, plus or minus about 50 for the charges. The Model 70 barrel is somewhat "faster" than the Blaser barrel, but the Blaser barrel barely has 100 rounds through it.
I know I could push speeds a lot, but I don't feel the need. I use my Weatherby for that!
I find 45.7-46.2 of MRP is the sweet spot for 140 grain bullets. That has been true for a Model 70 featherweight and a Blaser R8. I hang out right around 45.9. Nosler book length seems to work pretty well on the Partitions and Custom Competitions with little tuning required. The Accubond took...
I'm deep into the new IMR "Enduron" powders - 4166, 4451, etc. I am always lured by "reduced fouling". Definitely lowered copper fouling, but still DIRTY.
During the panic I stocked up on primers. I'm about 20,000 shots from my next order.
Good advice here. With a new rifle, you get to start all over because they aren't magic. I have a Cooper and it is a great rifle. I still had to do load development, though, for best results. The groups just started smaller!
I have no experience with the Nosler rifles.
4451 works just as well as H4350 in the 6.5x55. No copper, but the stuff is DIRTY.
I think you have several loads there that just need some depth tuning. I had to work fairly hard to tune a load for mine, but .5 moa was achievable.
I just finished load development with the 180 AB's in a Blaser R8 in .30-06. <.5 MOA repeatedly.
I used IMR 4451 at 55 grains and ended up .080" from the lands in this rifle.
It is clear to me the once fired cases are more consistent. In the absence of any once fired, I should crimp. That didn't hold true for the 150's though.
This barrel is the sporter weight, so I always allow the two minutes to cool. It never gets too hot to touch, at least at our usual ambient...
