Joe my 7 Mag loves R23!! The best velocities I have ever gotten in that rifle and the accuracy is great too!! I have a Tikka with 24 inch barrel and I can get 160 grainers to 3015 fps. I tried a 140 gr TTSX load with 65 gr of RL23 and was getting 3125 fps. I am sure you are pushing the same speed.
Joe I have gotten excellent accuracy using IMR 4831 in my Tikka 7 Mag. For bullets to go with that powder I have 140gr SGK, 150,162gr ELDX, 150 gr Partitions, 120,140gr Nosler Ballistic tips. All of the aforementioned bullets shot sub moa with IMR 4831 in my rifle. I did not get the speeds with...
I was at LGS this week and did see some primers. The price had dropped $10 per 1000 since about 2 months ago so that is a positive. The negative is that they were still $159 per 1000....
I definitely plan to use them. In fact, I have 50 pieces of Nosler 7MM Rem mag brass that needs to be fire formed. I will probably use these primers and get some velocity testing done with the new brass.
I was with my family at the in-laws yesterday and my father in law was going through some ammo boxes looking for some 20 ga trap loads to give to my son. He found a half full (in these times the box HAS to be half full) of CCI 250 large rifle magnum primers. Anyone have a guess as to how old...
I love to hunt without a blind when I am alone. It is awesome to have a bird get in close and be face to face with him. However most of my hunts these days are with either a 5 or 7 yr old so the blind is a necessity.
My son was able to connect on a jake this morning. We hunted yesterday from 6am to 2:30 and my son did an awesome job of sitting in the blind. We had birds on the field all day long. So we decided to move the blind about 150 yards. That put us in the chips for this morning. Great morning that we...
Tried a couple of different loads on the milk jugs this week. Was able to catch both bullets. First try with a Barnes TTSX. Weight retention and penetration was as advertised.
Looking for some advice folks..
My wife and I are in the position to be able to build our forever home on a piece of land that we own. She has been gracious enough to think of me through this process and has inquired as to where my "reloading room" should be. So what say ye???
Should I just...
I have a Remington 30-06 that has always shot pretty well. a lot of sub moa groups and a lot of low ES. Most of my past and best experience has been with Hornady brass that has been fire formed and neck sized. I have started to use some virgin Nosler brass that I did run through a full length...
Thanks for all of the input. My son likes "his" 7-08 and my plan is to start putting him in for KY youth elk quota or even an out west elk hunt in next couple of years. Just wanted to start working on a load for "his" rifle! Thanks again this is a great place to get quality information.
I have been working on trying to develop a possible 7-08 elk load. I used a 140 gr Accubond and Staball 6.5, got a 4 shot average of 2890 fps. My group size wasn't exactly what I wanted but I feel like I can fix that. If taken on an elk hunt shot would be 300 and in. Would this be enough? I have...
I have had great results with 4451 in 30-06 with 165 gr bullets, 2925 velocity with Single digit SD/ES and 1/2 moa groups. Also had luck with 4451 in the 270. I have successfully used IMR 4831 in 243, 270 and 7 mag. Speeds with 4831 have not been top notch but accuracy has been.
