Ran the data on Quickload, the pressure maxed out at 79 grains. 79.5 grains was at 66,250 psi just 2,250 psi over the safe psi factor of 64,000 psi which isn't much.
Headed to my buddy's place to test 6 rounds with Barnes 180 TTSX and RL 25 in Lapua brass and .050" off the lands. 77 - 79.5 grains in .5 grain increments for the ladder to check pressure and velocity. I was expecting mid 3000 on the first round, but surprised on the speed.
77 gr. - 3139 fps...
Loaded 6 individual charges in .5 increments from 77 to 79.5 grains RL 25. Got some RL 25 data off of Speer and Alliant. Felt a good crunch and seated .050" off at OAL of 3.475". Just to check pressure and velocity, I aim to get it up to 3100 fps, if not more. My 180 Accubonds ran up to 3260 fps...
Wanted to get back in the game after a small hiatus from reloading. I remembered buying two boxes of 180 TTSX for the 300 Win Mag for those tough nilgai. After neck turning the thick Lapua brass many months ago to fix a high pressure issue, I have pulled 6 cases to size, ran a .307 mandrel...
60 shots per match, i only have enough for one last match. I won't keep buying new brass just to shoot matches, I need to find a fix to the problem. Even my gunsmith suspects that the issue is the die.
Virgin brass without bumping at all shows excellent results on paper at 100, even at 600 yards, I made great scores with a few nines from wind or human error. It did great, after sizing the 1X fired brass with bump, accuracy was poor compared to my virgin brass results plus issues with carbon...
By the way, I forgot to include in my post that the virgin brass that was fired on my last test had no carbon, on that brass it was never annealed and I sized it and fired it two more times, it still had carbon. So annealing had nothing to do with it.
I started off with a RCBS press when I was a newbie, had it for about 25 years until I got the Redding Big Boss. I heard good things about the Co Ax with its free floating system. Co Ax would be my next press if I were to seek a new press.
I have shot the same cases twice without annealing, still have carbon issues.
Virgin brass tried on two separate tests came out clean / no carbon . I sized neck and body only when I sized prior to when I had 300 pieces. after it was fired, I adjusted for bump to get .002" bump. I noticed that...
I have been real busy, but was able to fire off 230 rounds of loaded virgin Alpha brass for my 6 Dasher to be fireformed for my upcoming 600 yard matches but there is an issue that I have been wrangling with. It will be quite a lengthy story, but I'll do my best. The Dasher is a .275 no turn.
I...
I shoot SK and Lapua in my 22 Vudoo. I stick with Lapua Center X for competitions, but the SK Standard Plus are great ammo. It's cheap for the accuracy that you want. I never shot Eley yet.
SK Standard has produced good groups in the .25 to .5 MOA at 50 yards, I like it for practice. You may...
I have nothing but Nightforce ATACR's on my rifles, ranging from 6 Dasher, 6.5 Creed, 6.5 x 284, .308, 300 Win Mag, even on my .22 Voodoo. A bit heavy, but i like em. Reticles are nice too.
