Nobody ever NEEDS another rifle. Like my dad always says..."a guy can never have too many guns".
I'm fixing to call the gunsmith tomorrow to start getting my ducks in a row. I talked to him last September about this (ended up dropping the idea til now) and he told me he had a 3-4 week...
Thanks for the info.
If I'm understanding correctly...A set of AI dies will get me going off the bat.
What's the best way to set up the AI die to neck up a standard 25-06 case to 6.5?
Thanks for input fellas.
I've been digging around the interwebz most of the afternoon and I think I'm settled on the 6.5-06 AI.
This idea has been rattling around my head for about a year and I kept talking myself out of it due to I already own a 280 and only run 140 gr'ers out of it. I...
I've decided to re-barrel the 'ol 25-06 to 6.5-06 for no other reason than I want to mess with a different caliber and I've got an itch for a 6.5 mm. I'm leaning towards a Shilen #4 / 1-8'' twist / CM / cut to 24''-25''.
My plan is to utilize the pile of 25-06 brass I already have, which is...
I was loading it for my 280. Accuracy & velocity was very good but I found it pretty spikey as far as temp sensitivity goes. The couple of very unscientific tests I did showed a pretty good jump in velocity when shot in warmer temps. I don't have my notes in front of me but I seem to remember...
Picked this up last week and put about 300 rounds through it when I was back deer hunting last weekend.
So far...I'd highly recommend this pistol to anyone looking for a EDC piece.

Thanks for info fellas. I'm looking forward to see what this bullet can do if I'm lucky enough to get to pull the trigger.

I've used Accubonds the last couple of years with no complaints. I tried the Hornadys on a whim and they've been shooting better than the AB's so I decided to give em go this year.

Last trip to the range before November firearm opens the 14th. I'd say the 280 is ready to go.
139 gr Hornady BTSP
57.0 gr IMR-4451
1-fired Norma brass
3075 fps over the MagnetoSpeed

You guys hit the nail on the head. Shot 3 groups this morning at 0.020", 0.015, & 0.010" off the lands and I think I found a winner at 0.015" off.

Like you I'm working on a load with 4451 to replace hybrid 1000 in my 280.
So far it's showing some promise accuracy wise but I've only tested 3 loads after the initial ladder test. Velocities have been better than expected.

Thanks for the replies fellas. I'm definitely going to try messing with the seating depth.
This might be a dumb question...since all 3 groups were at about the same spread, would you concentrate on the powder charge with the highest velocity or tweek all 3. The reason I ask is I'm running...
Ran some more test loads with the 280 this morning with 139 gr. Interlock-BT's & IMR-4451 / 55.5 gr., 56.0 gr., & 56.5 gr. The bullet was seated 0.029'' off the lands for all groups. It was a really nice morning...45* with almost no wind. None of the loads showed any signs of pressure.
A)...
Did you have any obvious signs of pressure?
The reason I ask is I had similar results (but the other way around) when comparing velocities of a load in my 280 with my new Magnetospeed and my Shooting Chrony. The MS showed a muzzle velocity of 2860 fps compared to 2990 fps with the SC. Both...
