    2026 Hunting Season

I have always had good results on big game (elk, moose, mule deer, and grizzly) with the 220 gr Hot Cor in my BLR 358 Win @ 2209 fps (20" barrel; shoots 1" groups at 100 yards). I do have some of the 180's to try in the 35 Rem, but have not done so yet.

My Daughter Lost Her Best Friend

Always tough to say good-bye to those special friends. We can relate. Susan and I both lost some of our friends over the past 12 years. Our friends running in new pastures include: Dove (Morgan) Breezy (Morgan) Sir (Morgan) Tonkawa (Morgan) Indy (Fjord) Buck (Morgan)

    somewhat impressed

I have two rifles chambered in the 338 Federal, and am enjoying the performance of this cartridge on game. As I hunt larger game mostly with these rifles, I am focusing more on the heavier bullets such as the 200 and 210 grainers, which provide the minimum recommended sectional density (0.250)...

308 Win 180 grain Norma Bondstrike

And there lies the issue... A 100 lb southern whitetail is going to show dramatically different results in bullet performance with a stouter bullet, than a 300 lb+ northern whitetail, just as a small 150 lb black bear will show dramatically different results in bullet performance than a larger...

    New Swift Z Bullet

I'm interested in seeing the specs on these bullets as they are introduced, and then seeing comparisons to other bullets such as the ABLR and Terminal Ascent. A comparison test of the 174-175 bullets in these three makes, in a few popular rifles chambered in the 7MM PRC , all with same length...

    New old rifle 7MM mag

Nice! And Yikes!!! The 7mm Rem Mag is a very good cartridge! I had great results with mine. It has performed so well since introduced in 1962, that even the newest version for those wishing to shoot the heavier, longer, sleeker bullets chose to design the new PRC cartridge to emulate the...

    270 wsm

My current 270 WSM (LH Browning X Bolt All Weather with 23" Barrel 1:10) has proven itself with factory ammo with 140 gr bullets so far, with the Nosler AccuBond and Federal Trophy Bonded Tip both producing 100 yard, 3-shot groups of 0.565" and 0.396", respectively. As I have other...

    The Vertical Grip Trend

As stated above, the advantage of the vertical grip is when shooting prone or from the bench, in target shooting, where one has time to get settled in and shooting from some type of rest, tripod, or bull bags where you really aren't holding onto the rifle with both hands, and have more time to...

    .35 Whelen acquired, now optimizing.

Very interesting data! Thanks. I am getting 2528 fps from my 22" barreled 358 Win with the 225 gr SGK, loaded over 54.2 gr of CFE223 in WW brass and F210M primers. It produces 100 yards 3 shot groups averaging 0.720". (ES was 11.5) So almost identical as the 35 Whelen accuracy load provided by...

    6.5 CM 130gr bullet test, Part 1 - Setup

My Benchmark barrel is 5R, but I am not sure of it is cut rifled or button. I will have to check with my gunsmith.

    Rationalizing all my loads

It has been some time since Thankful Otter has responded to a message. I too hope that is all is well with her and her family. Simplifying things can be a good thing, and hope that you accomplish your goal! I too have thought of this, but do not think I am quite ready as there is still much...

    2026 Rifle Plans

Thanks! And I'll get to field test that shotgun wrist carrier you made for me with it too! Should make for a great field set up!

    2026 Rifle Plans

Although not a rifle, an unexpected firearm acquisition yesterday at the local annual gunshow... A like new CZ Bobwhite G2 in 28 ga. for a great price! Couldn't pass it up! And the 1/4" cast off is so slight that as a lefty I have no issues mounting blind and finding the bead in good alignment...

So I forgot a very important rule

Once you nail down which load it prefers, and you get used to it, the accuracy will come around!

    Presses and Impressions

I have the RCBS Summit and need to get it set up to use. I will be getting the upgrade for the linkage a mentioned above to mitigate the slop that can appear over time. I find it interesting that Federal's Custom Shop uses this press for all of its custom handloading and load development. Over...

    Lucked Up On Some Bullets!

In my first 280 Rem (a Browning A Bolt Composite Stalker back in 1989), I found the Hdy 162 gr Interlock to be the most accurate load. I didn't have access to a chrony back then, but the max load of IMR 4350 gave good results, with recoil closer to that of a 7mm Rem Mag than the factory 280 Rem...

    Lucked Up On Some Bullets!

I also have the 150 gr ABs and will be developing a load for these as well, using the load data for the BT as the starting point to tweak the load for the AB. Would be great if both would shoot to the same poi.
