You can't go wrong with either the 30-30 or 35 Rem in a Henry or Marlin. I have a Marlin 336 in 35 Rem and it's an awesome rifle. Furthest shot was 160ish yards on a doe. That shot was with the factory Hornady Leverevolution load. Which shoots great but I can't stand it's on game performance...
The 7 Back Country didn't interest me but the 6.5 Creedmoor case with the same alloy is interesting for sure. Handloader had an article on reloading the 7 BC. Federal currently recommends that you only reload their nickel plated peak alloy cases and not the uncoated ones like in their Fusion...
Wow, what a hunt! I think you may need to buy a lottery ticket with all that luck! Great rifle & cartridge too. Well done.
Hopefully you can get your 35 Rem figured out. I love mine.
What a beautiful rifle and a shooter at that! Like others have said, try either H4895 and/or going lighter in bullet weight if your starting 180gr handload is still too much recoil. I would be very cautious going lower on IMR4831 than what the book suggests. Hang fires and large velocity swings...
Yes, use the seating die. You don't want a hand fit, especially in a lever gun. You could accidentally seat the bullet deeper during cycling and have some pressure problems.
Are these black powder loads in a single shot or smokeless in something else?
Not sure I'd call it a replacement for R26. Ive had pretty good accuracy in my 6.5 & 7mm PRC's with Staball HD but velocity has been quite a bit lower than what the manuals say.
I've seen a black coyote while hunting but couldn't get a shot. I have trail cam pics of a tiny piebald doe but never saw her in person. I've seen an albino doe in the back of a neighborhood around where I live, shes kind of famous.
My first Sig was a two-tone P226 in 9mm. Then Sig came out with the Elite and I found out you could drop a 357 Sig barrel in a 40 & vice versa. Sold the 9mm and never looked back. The P220 Hunter I have (as all Hunters) has the 5" barrel and is SAO. Its been very accurate but may get a trigger...
I'm a Sig fan boy but haven't dabbled in the P320's. I have a couple P220's, P226's, P229, P239 and a P365 XL. I shot a deer with my 10mm P220 Hunter last year and recently got a P226 X-Five which has been a phenomenal gun.
I'd be a little cautious with a round nose in a bigger centerfire like a 30-06 and above if your pushing the velocity for big game. Using one meant for 30-30 velocities could be...interesting. Personally I'd run some in milk jugs to see how they perform at the velocity and distance you plan on...
I don't think there's any reason to get rid of a good 300 WM for the 300 PRC or 257 Weatherby for a 25 RPM etc unless you have your heart set on running very heavy high BC bullets. The 300 PRC can run 245+ gr bullets, your factory twist 300 WM cannot. So it's honestly just preference on what you...
