I’m going to start the process tomorrow to get my cataracts resolved hopefully. My question, is there a distance of clarity that you tell your Optometrist you are looking for to shoot shotgun clays and upland birds, along with scoped rifle shooting. I’ve heard that long range acuity is what you...
Got mine in. Firearms cow and bull. Anyone in the OH, WV, VA region like me may want to apply today. Cost is $10 for each tag, cow or bull. I should say that’s the cost of each draw. Tag is paid for after drawing.
I finally got a couple photos taken of my new Featherweight. The photos aren’t great, that’s on me.
Bore looks good, not fired much. There’s no erosion at all in the throat. Truthfully, I’d be surprised if there’s been 60 rounds fired. I’d call the blueing at 100%. There isn’t any wear even on...
I’ve seen here a few times that people have been looking for 200 grain .358 rifle bullets. American Reloading has them for a pretty fair price. In the past I ordered a few thousand steel core ball projectiles and they were quick to get them to me. Good prices as well. They are legitimate with...
Well, now what. Lol.
Just won a Winchester Model 70 Featherweight in 270 WSM for a good price. It’s in nice shape with a Nikon Monarch scope. I thought it would kick off at a higher price. Never a dull moment.
Doest anyone know of someone that will build and re-barrel a Remlin 45-70. Would want the stock contour maintained and have the sights duplicated as well. It shoots great but the rifling isn't up to my liking. A factory replacement barrel wouldn't be out of the question either. I'm just mapping...
I have a Vanguard Sporter in 270 Win that I bought new a few months ago. Hasn’t been fired yet. I also have a couple new Fullfield II’s, and 3 new Nikons on the shelf. I went with a new Burris 4.5x14x42.
Well, I’m ashamed to say I didn’t go with my old stand by Talleys. I went cheap for no good...
I showed these to Dan a while back but never got around to posting them.
I had McGowen build a 4140 26” 1:10 barrel in the white for my 308 Win. I kept the factory Magnum Sporter profile. I didn’t like the matte finish of the factory 783 action so I refinished it to a gloss finish and hot blued...
Just and fyi. Cabela’s has CCI 200’s and Winchester LRM primers. Have it shipped to store and there’s no hazmat. 10 sleeves of 100 per order of each. Order 10 and they send it as a brick.
I have an suggestion. With the rapid expansion of the Staball line of powders, give us one on the other end of the spectrum. A 4198 speed Staball would be snapped up by us straight walled shooters. Especially if it was kept in stock.
How have you guys been doing? Haven't been on much. I was wondering if someone would be kind enough to run a Quickload calculation for LT-32 in a 22” barreled 45-70. 4198’s have been mythical lately and this sits smack dab between RL7 and IMR4198 on the burn chart. It’s a small extruded powder...
After dinner today I’m heading over to WV for some rifle hunting. Then I’ll trek back to Ohio next week for the opening days of Ohio‘s deer gun season. I’m taking a Remington 700 in 7mm Rem Mag for WV, and my Marlin 1895 for Ohio. Thought about bringing my Bushmaster for the Ohio hunting but...
I’m thinking about getting a Vanguard Sporter in 270 Win within the next week or so. I haven’t heard any cons about any of the Vanguard line, only praise. For the price it seems economical, with a sub moa guarantee. Do any of you fine gentlemen have any first hand range time with them? That’s...
Well I rescued another stray. NIB Springfield Armory Garrison 5” 1911. The Garrison really is a beautiful sidearm. The pictures I took don’t do it any justice at all. It’s the Firstline edition and comes with 3 magazines, cable lock, handsome factory box and soft case. It was coming home with...
I got more banded E-Tips for my 270 Win. They were 131 grains and not 130, but they were also $15.97 per 50. The 130 grainers perform great in my rifles………..didn’t figure I’d notice that 1 grain difference. Jesus I’m bullet poor. Lol.
I’m actually finding accuracy and velocity with H4198 in my new 450 Bushmaster. I have Lil Gun and it works great with all but the heaviest bullets. Would one of you be kind enough to run a couple Quickload projections for H4198 and IMR4198?
450 Bushmaster
Barrel length of 18.63” with a 5r...
Well I loaded some test loads with 300gr XTP Mag bullets. I started at 40 grains of H4198 going up to 43 grains in .5 grain increments. According to Hodgdon information it gets a little better velocity with 300 grain loads than the others. Hopefully it will cycle the action.
I’m running Hornady...
I’m putting a 45 caliber round ball barrel on my TC Seneca. It’s a spotless .36 caliber squirrel rifle and one of the best carrying little guns I’ve ever held. I’ve got a cut rifled 13/16” Green Mountain barrel blank and am fitting the breech plug right now. It’s rifled to 1:66” for round balls...
I traded a mid-grade AR-15 I built, for a new Ruger MPR 450 Bushmaster today. From the looks of the rifle, bolt face, bore, and how tight the action is I don't think it’s ever been fired. The finish is still fully intact on all moving parts.
An acquaintance bought it from a Cashland that sold it...
