I have shot deer with the Ranger Talons, WW JHPs, Federal Hydra-Shoks and RP Golden Sabers. By far the best performance on deer was the 155 gr Golden Saber. It was the first bullet out of all of them to exit. Just the fact that it exited wasn't the only thing; the bullet completely decimated...

How about a Model 7 Stainless topped with a 1.75x6 scope. Manageable recoil, lots of thunp on short range hogs and deer. Definately will not have to worry about bullet failure, and with 180 gr NABs loaded up to 2700-2800fps would be nice.
Remember JD's post with the 338 RUM fired bullets . ...
If you are concerned about bullet construction with impacts at 25 yards, use the 160 gr NAB and all is well. I cannot think of any situations where the bullet would fail out of a 708 at 25 yards. Problem solved?
I was FL resizing my cases, bu tI was having to trim after 2 loadings. Now I am neck sizing, maintaing sub 1/2 MOA groups and have not trimmed after last 4 loadings. Actually, the cases are not stretching at all, about 0.001 after four firings. FWIW, I am shooting 52/53 SMKs and AMAX from...
Have ya'll done any testing with this bullet in 300 RSAUM? I have tried to get the 168 and 155 J4s to group well, but I always get a first or last shot flier. A typical group with the 168s will be about 3/4 MOA, but with 175 SMKs I am averaging 1/3 MOA out to 535 yards and the 178 AMAX will...

I am shooting a pair of 300 RSAUMs and a 300WM. I have shot my Model 7 next to a 300 WSM Browning Titanium, and the Model 7 outperformed the Titanium by about 50 fps with similar weight bullets (175 SMK in Model 7 and 180 NBT in WSM).
HOWEVER, with 165s the WSM will outpace my Model 7, but my...
Ignore the folks talking about guns firing when the safety is switched! This happens when shadetree gunsmiths play with triggers (or fire and their life). Don't look past Rem Varminter .22-250. This will minimize the effects of the wind compared with the obvious second choice, .223. It would...
.243 95 gr AB (Swift already has 90 gr)
.264 115 gr AB and 140 gr AB (Swift has 130) - This would reach two markets currently untouched; bc for 115 about .45 and 140 about .6
.284 120 gr - This would be the ulitimate WT bullet for the SA 7mm rounds
.308 168 or 175 gr with VLD taper (165 is...
