Shooting the old guys over the bench is how I do it. The most important part is padding the shoulder for the crescent butt plates. As far as higher loads I have gone up to 32 grains{5744} but decided right away that was to much. These old guys are just fun to shoot, I have plenty of modern...
On loading the 45-70. I have fun with 5744 at 27 to 30 grains and a 325 grain cast lead bullet. I can shoot all day but I cannot tell you how fast it is going. I feel confident if it hit a pig or deer the party would over for the critter. I suppose I should mention it is shooting 1886...
Now we are getting somewhere, there were some occasional extraction issues { in a small test batch}and I kept telling myself that I was not seating the primers deep enough when all the time it was strictly physical differences. Now I know why I must stick with pistol primers. Thank you very...
Seasons greetings to all. I have been loading my 44 magnum pistols for some time and have no problems at all. But now I have a 44 magnum rifle {Henry}with a 20 inch barrel. The Unique powder will be to fast burning so I switched to 2400 powder. It was recommended in several articles and I will...
Elk Man Thank you for responding to my inquiry. I read up on the subject in Ken Waters book and decided 20 grains of reloader 7 makes a very accurate load and the powder is in stock along with some bench rest primers. I am curious what overall cartridge length the original book called for. It is...
Greetings I hope this post stirs up some memories. At least 15 years ago I bought up a friends dads supply of reloading components he had at his store that did not sell at the yard sale. Dad passed hunting ducks and something needed to be done with the supplies. While killing ground squirrels...
Thanks for sending the video. Looks like another great product from Dillon. And as a bonus the color matches every thing else in the room. One more problem solved. Newysan
Greetings After the great response on the Lee factory crimp die I thought I would gather some info on crimp removal. Due to the current ammo panic created by you know who, my stash of brass is down to the jug filled with LC nato used brass. As I search through various merchants catalogs I...
Greetings Thanks for all the feedback on the Factory Crimp Die. Everything said here confirms all my findings. It is a step in the right direction. Thanks again, Newysan
Greetings A while back I began using the Lee factory crimp die on my larger caliber reloads, the 45-90 45-70 38-55 and the 44-40. Just recently started using on 223. I would like to hear others opinions on this die. I have had no problems with it. Some times I think the pressure may be going up...
Greetings. So far you are being steered in the right direction. Nickle plated jags get rid of "false " readings and combined with carbon fiber rods give a true indication of the degree of copper fouling. I love watching peoples faces when they see what comes out of their bores. Just makes one...
Greetings Due to things I have no control over supplies are getting unpredictable and choices need to be made. I shoot 45 ACP and 44M plus the 45 Long Colt. I am watching the supply of Winchester large pistol primers dwindle down and there on the same shelf are 2K of CCI 350 large magnum...
This should stir the pot. I have done minimal research but so far nothing to say it is not so. Hard to believe the idiots missed it but it is noteworthy and hopefully true. Do some home work and see for yourselves. N

You can shoot the heavy loads, I used to. Want to buy a stretched and worn out S&W 29? Basically it's higher pressure = equals shorter life span of the weapon. Save the heavy stuff for hunting. My $ .02 learned the hard way. n
Thanks for all the response. Starline brass was more than happy to sell me new 45-90 brass and had some 38-55 that will come in handy also. The set trigger part is elusive though, but one will turn up eventually. I can use the trigger in the regular fashion so it's still in service and provides...
Greetings I have an 86 Winchester in 45-90. It has the "single set" trigger. I am missing a small piece that attaches to the hammer called the "FLY" which allows the single set function to operate. The trigger will work in the normal manner but the single stage is better. I also am looking for...
Dave Glad to hear we are on the same page. I have never understood why folks in MN. supported these left leaning creeps to begin with, I mean there is more hunters per capita there probably than just about anywhere. I am on a bit of a "fight back " campaign with bumper stickers, "Don't trust a...
