I have read about guy who sold their rifle because of the shortage. And others have change their mind about building a rifle in this caliper to something with a better sore of brass. I like the caliper and it shoots well. I'm sticking with it for now.
Elk season starts in 2 week. All of my brass has been reloaded up to 5 times. I wish I could find some new 28 Nosler brass to load. Nosler has really disappointed me with the lack of brass or loaded ammo.
Unlike Pa, I believe Colorado requires you to carry your Hunter Education Card along with your license. If you don't have your original card you might want to find a local Hunter Ed course and get a new card before heading out. I like to bring a life straw or some sort of water filter. Good Luck.
I have loaded the 150 grain e-tip form my 280AI and found it to be extremely accurate,( maybe the most accurate bullet for that gun). I seated the bullet about .090 from the lands for best accuracy. I end up abandoning the bullet because of my inability to find why I would get an occasional...
Thanks guys. The speed of that load was not great compared to what a 280AI can do. It was running just over 2700fps. It was a starting load and I was doing a C.O.A.L test to determine the best seating depth of the E-tip. I believe I've settled for .90 off the lands.
Thanks for the photo tour. That looked like a great time. I don't post much and I don't want to sound like am am bragging but I have had a Cooper rifle for a few years. It's a 280AI and it does shoot well. This is some early work with the Nosler E-Tip at 100yrds
This photo is the E-tip at...
Thanks guy. As soon as I can find a scope and some dies I plan to start loading with the 225 Partitions (SPS has a good price on overruns right now.) But I am willing to take any suggestions. The rifle’s first assignment will be for elk and black bear.
I was invited join a co-worker on a...
I was not wanting to be left out so I purchased a 35 Whelen on Friday. It is a Ruger 77 Hawkeye with the all weather finish. I still need to find a scope for it and purchase a set of loading dies. I hope I can find the time and have it dialed in for my Elk hunt in Oregon this fall.
Thank I will make a note to visit Specialty sports on my next trip. I'm back in Pennsylvania now but I hope to be working in Colorado again later this summer or fall. I did visit Estes Park and took a short drive in Rocky Mountain National Park. It is truly beautiful country. I am envious of...
I am working in Colorado for a couple of weeks. And I have been all smiles since I arrived. Not only is it beautiful here but the people are very nice too. I have traveled from Colorado Springs, Denver, Loveland and Cheyenne, Wy. The scenery has been spectacular. I have had the chance to...
While reading the Hodgdon 2011 Annual Manual I noticed a writer wrote that he was using 41.0 grains of LVR behind a 170 grain sierra to get 2300fps. And 42 grain of LVR with a 150 Sierra to exceed 2500fps.
I not in the position to say if this is safe load or not, but I am surprised that these...
This was the first year that I hunted with a 30-30. I took my 11 year old son with me for opening buck season (his first hunt). He is small and I knew the 280 was too heavy for him. I bought some of Remingtons reduced recoil loads for him to take some practice shoots and he fell in love with...
Yes we do love it. Non-hunters cannot understand the thrill we feel when we see wildlife. We don't always need to kill it to have a great hunt. I have never taken a bear in the 20+ years of hunting them. I hope someday my luck will change. But if not I'm still gonna hunt. Today the weather...
Today was opening day for black bear in Pennsylvania. 30 minutes after sun rise I saw a beautiful white tail buck sneaking thru the patch I was watching. After I lost sight of him I glanced around and saw a huge 7x 7 bull elk coming up the hill on my left. He stopped about 20 yards from me...
