    Tips and Tricks

As a master builder I can tell you this.....whether building a home or reloading a cartridge........it's all about the tools. Improvisation is wonderful........BUT only after you have mastered the tools and their uses. Specifically for reloading one of the most useful tools is my vernier...

    Powder and the atmosphere

That's why I use IMR 4350. I don't have a lot of time anymore for reloading and shooting. And I know from years of testing, that it will get the job done, fair weather or foul. For hunting here in MS it's pretty important, as I may be hunting when it's 18' or 80'...........and that spread may...

    270 Win Varmint

Yeah Doc........the Dr. told me just after the surgery that if I didn't do what he said I could loose the use of my leg. Scared the you-know-what out of me and I've been doing exactly what he says. And yes this has been very productive weekend.

    270 Win Varmint

Hey JD.........naw, I don't think they are gonna be varmint friendly. I ain't shot a lot of hollow points in rifles, but still, those are some big holes in the tip of those bullets. If one of those loads will hold to 2" then I'm good to go......got goats that will be dropping babies in about 2...

    270 Win Varmint

Since I did not get to hunt this year and since I have a box of Speer 100gr HP that have been sitting on my bench for 4 years, I decided that it was time to try something. And the Dr. told me Thursday last that I can now put 50% of my weight on my leg(after 13 weeks)......so here's what I'm...

300 WSM 168 gr BST WHY?

Hey JD, I never shot the 168 but I did use the 150gr BT out of a 300wm the first 5 years I hunted in MS. That's what sold me on the BTs. I would imagine that the 168s would be one hole shooters with a decent rifle and some good handloads.

300 WSM 168 gr BST WHY?

Uh, so now you've got an excuse to spend some quality time at the range??? And just think, when you get done you can load up some 180s.......... That kinda logic has always worked well for me!

    Guiding rifle

I wonder how much that big claw extractor has to do with the Rugers having become popular as guide guns. When I hunted in bear country all I would carry was a pair of Rugers......M77/338wm(can still remember the load 210Nosler Partition, 73grIMR4350, CCI LargeRifleMagPrimer) and a Ruger SBH...

    Favorite 22 and shooting bench

Here's my favorite 22. It's a Ruger 10/22 with the mannlicher/laminate stock. When Ruger discontinued these, our local Walmart was moving to a new "Supercenter" building and they had these deeply discounted. I originally got 3 of them at $60/each. 2 of them went to other homes. Also a...

    My Peashooter

Yeah, as I mentioned on another thread, I found this site by accident while looking for info on adjusting my trigger. IF(ain't that a big word) I have some info to go by, I feel confident to do it.

    Fancy Wood or Plastic?

I've seen some beautiful wood stocks, had a couple that were nicely figured, but nothing exotic. But the nicest/prettiest wood stock I had was on a .338WM Ruger. And anytime I went out in the woods, that thing went with me. And that thing took a beating. Seems I did a refinish on that thing...

Call the wambulance!! (whine, sob, cry)

Hey Mooswa.......... It's kinda aggravating in a way. Years and years of pushing the envelope with all manner of mechanical stuff and nothing more then skinned knuckle type stuff. Then back to the farm 4+ years ago...........broken toes(twice) 3 broken fingers(and not all at once), and then my...
