Anyone heard of or use Lucas Gun Oil?
I read a very favorable review a few months ago (somewhere) which said it was particularly good for guns which would not be used for a while, as it won't dry off during "long periods of storage" which the article translated as months - not years.
I've been...
Thanks guys.
I've read about PFLS, but somehow never made the connection.... I've been routinely necksizing until a problem occurs, then FL sizing, which always made me think I was potentially losing accuracy on one out of every every 3-5 reloads.
I'm gonna go to PFLS. Also going to look for...
Not to initiate a major discussion on the relative value of neckksizing - I realize there are two major camps (worthwhile / not worthwhile), but...
Normally, full length resizing sets the shoulder to SAAMI specs. If I adjust my full length die so that it bumps the shoulder back only a couple...
I've read several opinions indicating a scope can have too much magnification - e.g., a 6-24 is too much, a 6-20 will be better.
Given that my eyes are getting worse with age, I tend to think more magnification is better... what is the disadvantage of more power, especially shooting small...
RCBS case lube. After narrowing the problem to the Hornady cases: Coated the inside of the Hornady necks with a Q-tip after the first couple seized; also put it on the expander ball. The next two cases were easier, but still much too tight, then another seized.
Ordinarily I use mica on the...
Got the results of the case neck measurements.
Case walls at the mouth of the neck is pretty consistent (his best micrometers are at his work, so used an older set which may not be totally accurate, but will measure consistently).
New Rem cases (not sized): .0135
Resized Hornady: .015...
Joe - good question. We trust what we can see, feel and touch?
There's something mysterious going on inside that digital... I don't understand it, so I'm suspicious.
I use both.
I use the beam when charging a few cases, like when building a load and changing weight or powder during a session. I use the digital when in "production" - charging 20 or more cases.
The digital is much faster, but something of a pain to clean after using.
I also verify the...
Pop's right, for the ultimate solution... have to try combinations of compinations. I would, however, buy one powder and see if you can get a good load with that before buying the second (or third, or...)
I use Varget with Winchester primers in my 223 and 22-250; both give 1/2"MOA results...
I'm using a Savage 112 with Sierra GK 100 gr BT spitzers, 3400 fps, on groundhogs. Over 500 yds (+/-), hits drop to about 50% (from 80% at 300 - 500 yds).
At the range, I get consistent 1/2" MOA at 100 yards with this load.
I've decided to blame the performance deterioration on the bullet...
Agree. FL sized some new Rem brass - no problems - so will put the Hornadys in the curiosity file.
I have a friend who can mic both the inside of the case mouths and neck walls - just to satisfy my curiosity. I won't get results for about three weeks, but no rush.
Thanks for the insights--
Thanks for the welcome, JD338.
I should have mentioned earlier the downstroke on the press is also extremely difficult - its stand up and lean on the arm to push the ball thru.
I did make one other observation: In the fired brass (not resized) a new ball will not pass thru the neck opening...
Hi folks. Been reading this forum for some time-- good stuff-- now have a situation: Expander ball siezes in Hornady cases.
Bought a Ruger M77 in 220 Swift (Varmint) a few weeks ago, then bought two boxes of factory ammo- one box Remington, one box Hornady, for break in and initial cases to...
