100 Grain 6.5 Partition Loads

I scored a great deal on a Ruger American Predator 6.5Creedmoor today. I plan on giving it to my grandson Christmas of 2017 (this year he gets a lifetime hunting license.) He'll be 14 then and ready to graduate from his 223 single shot. His PaPaw has a 6.5 Creedmoor as well, so it'll be cool to be hunting with the same cartridge. He has been lights out with the 223 on deer with the 60 grain Partitions I have loaded for him. The Creedmoor will be an appreciable step up in muzzle blast and recoil. I don't want him to develop a flinch. I want to load some mild 100 grain Partition loads for him. I know it's a long shot, but I wanted to see if anyone had any pet loads for it or any suggestions as to where to start with powders and charges.

I think your grandson is going to like the 6.5 Creedmoor hands down. I don't think the report is going to be that much more than a .223, but it will be 10x's more lethal.
You obviously like your 6.5, and for good reasons.
I would suggest looking at Varget, and CF223 powders. They usually work well in small cases. Or even IMR 4064, or H4350, or IMR 4350.
I remember when I got my first 6.5x55. It wasn't an eardrum breaker. It was considerably less noisy than my dad's .30-06!
Loud, yes, but not mind numbing like my dad's 06.

I just looked up some quick loads online, and Varget and RL 17 seem to be pretty unbeatable for 100gr bullets and lower.
Now, anything heavier, 120grand above, use Varget and IMR 4350.
In my opinion, the 100gr bullets are light for deer sized critters. They're more for Big Varmints. I'd go with a 120gr or around there.
The recoil and report will still be in the patty cake department. But extremely lethal for any deer sized game.

While I am not familiar with the 6.5 Creedmoor. I am very familiar with both the 260 Remington and the 6.5x55. In my honest opinion, forget all about the 100gr bullet and give serious thought to either the 120 gr bt or 125gr pt. The two heaver bullets both have low report and are in the powder puff recoil department!

On a side note, my fiancé's teen age daughters don't complain at all about either the report or recoil for the 260 Remington. The pet load; 43gr IMR4350 behind 125gr pt. The velocity for that load is 2625fps out of a Remington model 7.

I don't have any load info for you but I wouldn't hesitate to use a 100 grain Partition if you get them shooting well.
I did make a mistake of loading three up for my 6.5 X 55 and getting a good group. I then loaded 50 more only to discover the first group was much better than what it actually shoots.
I've used the 100 grain BT with good results and can't imagine the Partition not being a better fit for deer.

Ultimately my grandson will use the same loads I do baring any accuracy oddities, but I am dead set on a gradual transition over a few hunting seasons. The American is a comparatively light rifle. I have read quite a bit about them and they are noted for recoiling pretty good.

I just piddled with a recoil calculator. Launching a 100 grain pill at 2650 out of the same rifle as a 125 grain pill being launched at 2650 results in an appreciable decrease in recoil. 12.6 foot pounds vs 8.7 foot pounds.

I have absolute faith in the Partition, even in light for caliber weight, for deer. I have had nothing but great results. I have a pound of Varget. I'll probably start with it. Ranges will be close so accuracy needn't be match grade, and the coastal deer tend to be small.
