First time using the A/B in any caliber. This is in a .257 Ackley Pre-64 model 70 (don't ask how that happened). This was the second buck that I shot off the same stand on consecutive nights. He was chasing a doe through some thick brush behind me on the edge of a field. Had to pick a spot between trees at about 65 yards. The bullet entered behind the left front shoulder and exited in front of the off-shoulder. The exit hole was about 1.5 inches across. I was hoping to recover the bullet to see what it looked like and check retained weight, but you have to be impressed with the performance. I would not worry about using A/B's on larger critters with some of my larger calibers.

Here is another a brother shot in the same area:

Nice Deer!! Whats the stats on the 257 Ackley? Is that a 250-3000 Savage "Acklyfied"? If so I am jealous!! Again nice deer.

Great pictures and a wonderfull hunt by the looks of your success.
Accubonds are impossible (In my opinion) to beat.
Good Hunting

No, it is a .257 Roberts Ackley. I bought it at a store as a Roberts, but it would not shoot anything I tried to load. I had to make a decision on weither to sell it or rechamber it. I hunt, not collect rifles and had always wanted a 257 Ackley. Some might say thats not right for a pre-64, but i'm not a purist or a collector. Shoots .5 MOA now and gives me a light recoiling rifle to stand hunt with and cover a large alfalfa field for my Minnesota deer hunts. Thanks for the question

Guy:
Had to laugh when you asked the question about my brother :). Hadn't noticed his fingers for the pic.

I am a big Swift A-Frame fan for elk and use them (I hunt elk with a 7mm08 that weighs 6.5 lbs with scope for mountain hunting) driving the 140 grain bullet at over 2900fps. After seeing the results from the deer shot this year, I would not hesitate to use the A/B's now either.

Good luck recovering an A/B from a whitetail of 13 deer shot with my rifles and A/B's (11 of which I shot) from ranges of 80 to 822 yards there was 1 that didn't exit. but I never could find the bullet or any fragments.
That bullet left the barrel at 3575 fps (160 gr) clipped a limb somewhere along the way, hit a hard quartering away buck just in front of the hip at 450 yards leaving a tennis ball sized entrance wound and still made it to the lungs the buck was blowing blood from the mouth as he went down.
I'm sold on them.
