I'll normally take a pass on a Bobcat. For some reason, I prefer to observe vs shoot them. However, the owner of the ranch I hunted last weekend issued an edict to shoot any Mountain Lions, Coyotes, Bobcats or Fox we see. Said he has too much money invested in his animals and can't risk losing them to Predators. Understandable.
After concluding my afternoon hunt, I was walking back to camp and saw this Bobcat slink into the road about 50 yards ahead. He stopped and stood broadside...just staring at me. Darn it, I thought. I really didn't want to shoot this guy , but I wanted to stay in good graces with the ranch owner. I slowly shouldered my 257 Wby, hoping he would take off. Well, he didn't. Below is the result.
As an aside, I am having a full body mount done. The cat will be stretched out on a log, lying lengthwise, with a front and back leg hanging over the log. The exit side will be repaired, but will be facing the wall, so not too worried about what the repair looks like.
