I just purchased a 7mm-08 for my 11 year old son. He shoots a lot with me including 9mm pistol, .22, and 30 carbine. This his first deer rifle and I want to keep the recoil light. I purchased some 120 grain Balistic tip to help him get comfortable with the gun. Can I also use the 120 grain for whitetail?

The 7mm 120 gr Ballistic Tip is very popular for deer hunting among those who've tried it.

I'm switching to it this season for use in my own 7mm-08 after getting a number of positive recommendations on it from folks who've used it for that purpose.

I'd say give it a try, I plan to.

I also loaded the 120's (in a Rem LSS Mtn rifle) for my youngest son when he could 1st deer hunt. They worked great on whitetail and antelope. He was a bit recoil sensative and had no problems. Good entrance and exit holes of about quarter size on both animals. One at about 70 yds and the other at 250 yds. It is a very good choice in caliber and bullet.

I started loading mine with 150gr B-tips and they shoot very well. I have since switched to the 120's with even better accuracy. I've taken several mule deer and several cow elk with the 120's out to about three hundred. The 7-08 is an awesome round and very accurate. You shouldn't have any issues with that bullet on whitetails.

Welcome to the forum!
The 120 gr BT in the 7mm-08 will work very well on WT deer.
