130 grain E-Tip

This morning I took a whitetail doe at approximately 50 yards using a Tikka 270 WSM loaded with 130 grain E-tip over max charge of Mag-pro powder. This load chronographed a little over 3200 FPS. The deer was uphill from me and at the shot she took about two hops on three legs and then slide down the hill stone dead. The bullets passed through both shoulders breaking bones in and out. The damage to her lungs was dramatic. You can see the exit wound in the picture. I feel this bullet performed wonderfully on this deer and is also very accurate in my tikka. I may make the switch to lead free bullets in all my hunting rifles.

Good job on the doe! I push the 130 grain E-Tip out of my 270 WSM. I can attest that it nails moose, elk, whitetail, mule deer, and black bear, dropping all with authority!

Awesome results thank you for sharing! I bought some of the .277-130 grain E-Tips to try in my Browning BBR .270 Winchester but haven’t had occasion as of yet.

In the past 8yrs I’ve only taken 2 deer with copper jacketed bullets , the rest have been monos.

I need to play with the Etip some more. My initial efforts were unsuccessful relative to accuracy. Great report on your success, what’s not to like getting through and through both shoulders and a devastating wound channel.

Impressive performance and congratulations on your deer. I have limited experience with monolithics, only taken 2 deer with the E-Tip 375 260 gr and 2 deer with the TTSX 375 250 gr but the on game performance was impressive.

The more I use E-Tips, CX, and TTSX, the more impressed I am. The all-copper hunting bullet has evolved into an excellent choice.

I guess I'm the odd man out as I have limited experience with monos having shot two whitetails one with a 243win 85gr Barnes TTX the other a 30-06 using a Nosler 150gr Etip. Both died, both shot thru the shoulders broadside shots, both exited but was minimal size wounds and I drove them as fast as I could for acceptable accuracy. I'm glad you got the deer and bullet worked for you, but you might want to poke a couple further out to see how well it performs for you. Just me.

What I’ve seen with Hammer and Cutting Edge they fragment off their petals causing a massive wound channel. We haven’t put one on a shoulder so I can’t say how they would behave there. Placed in the boiler room they work.

Results for me with monometal bullets has ben excellent in one case, no pun intended, to dismal in five other rifles.
he 100 and 120 gr. bullets in 25 caliber in my .257 Roberts and the 120 and 140 gr. 7MM bullets in three 7x57 rifles and a .280 Remington. I could decent velocity but I never got good accuracy.
The only good load came from the 225 gr. Barnes TSX in my .35 Whelen. Velocity ran 2710 FPS on average with most groups .375" to .75". I love that load on elk.
