This morning I took a whitetail doe at approximately 50 yards using a Tikka 270 WSM loaded with 130 grain E-tip over max charge of Mag-pro powder. This load chronographed a little over 3200 FPS. The deer was uphill from me and at the shot she took about two hops on three legs and then slide down the hill stone dead. The bullets passed through both shoulders breaking bones in and out. The damage to her lungs was dramatic. You can see the exit wound in the picture. I feel this bullet performed wonderfully on this deer and is also very accurate in my tikka. I may make the switch to lead free bullets in all my hunting rifles.1000005421.jpg

Impressive performance and congratulations on your deer. I have limited experience with monolithics, only taken 2 deer with the E-Tip 375 260 gr and 2 deer with the TTSX 375 250 gr but the on game performance was impressive.

I guess I'm the odd man out as I have limited experience with monos having shot two whitetails one with a 243win 85gr Barnes TTX the other a 30-06 using a Nosler 150gr Etip. Both died, both shot thru the shoulders broadside shots, both exited but was minimal size wounds and I drove them as fast as I could for acceptable accuracy. I'm glad you got the deer and bullet worked for you, but you might want to poke a couple further out to see how well it performs for you. Just me.

Results for me with monometal bullets has ben excellent in one case, no pun intended, to dismal in five other rifles.
he 100 and 120 gr. bullets in 25 caliber in my .257 Roberts and the 120 and 140 gr. 7MM bullets in three 7x57 rifles and a .280 Remington. I could decent velocity but I never got good accuracy.
The only good load came from the 225 gr. Barnes TSX in my .35 Whelen. Velocity ran 2710 FPS on average with most groups .375" to .75". I love that load on elk.

You're not alone Dan...
I haven't played with the E-Tips, or other monos in the 270 WSM, as I have been very happy with the AccuBonds and Trophy Bonded Tips to date...and know that some have issues getting monos to shoot consistently and accurately. Why fix it if it ain't broke?

And in the 270 WSM, the 140 gr AccuBonds and 140 gr Trophy Bonded Tips are performing well in my rifle (LH Browning X Bolt All Weather). (My first 270 WSM (Rem 700 B&C) also shot the 140 gr ABs very well with 1/2" groups)
The Nosler 140 gr AB ammo is producing 3073 fps from the 23" barrel, with 0.565" groups.
The Federal premium 140 gr Trophy Bonded Tip is producing 3156 fps with 0.396" groups. Worked well on a caribou at 210 yards last fall.

I’ve been playing with 130 grain ttsx for my .308 Win.
I am struggling with getting anything consistent in grouping.
One day can be 3/4” groups which I would be more than happy with, the next 1.5” groups. (All at 100 yards)
My 150 grain Accubonds shoot 3/4 all day every day.
Unfortunately my lovely NewYorkistan is considering going lead free and I may have no choice but go mono.
So I may have to do a powder change. We’ll see I guess….😜

I have not shot any E-tips on game as of yet in my personal rifles. My son with his 90 gr. E-tips in his 6mm Remington has killed a couple of deer, three antelope, and a big cow elk all with one shot. The performance on game was impressive and the little 90 gr. E-tip performed like it was a much larger bullet. None were recovered in the animals to include his elk which was shot at 350 yards. Me thinks I need to rectify this pretty soon and load some up for me.

My 270wsm was very accurate with 130g Etips and I had excellent results on deer, but I never could get Etips to shoot accurately in my 25-06. I finally gave up and tried lead-free Hammer bullets, bughole groups and excellent terminal performance on deer and coyotes.

I've shot a lot of mono bullets over the last several years and had the same problem with Barnes TSX in my son's 243 and in my 270 win. We switched to ttsx in his 243 and they were a little better, but still penciled through on a couple deer. Hammer bullets have been amazing on deer from a 243 win.
