Got my deer tag for WY. no antelope, they were nice enough to send me a check back . So I bought some Accubonds for my .270. I have a box of 130gr. and 140gr. any thoughts on which one to take and why? I have H4831sc, H4831, and some H380 for powder and win. primers, norma or Rem for brass.

My .270 likes the 130 BT (I know it isn't the AB) with 54.5 gr of IMR4350, Fed 210M and Win case. I'm shooting .65" and 2986 from a 22" Win Mod 70 featheweight

Which one shoots better for you, from your rifle?

That's the one to take. Either is more than capable of dropping a buck!

Jay,

Are you shooting a 270 Winchester?
The 130 gr is a classic deer bullet, the 140 gr offers a little better BC and will buck the wind a little better. Both bullets will do the job fr you. I would pick the one that shoots the best and not look back.

I agree with the two previous posts, which ever one shoots the best and remember a 2 -2 1/2 inch group has killed a lot of game. I use 4350 in the .270

Dad shoots the 130's, I shoot the 140's. They both shoot in one hole with H4831. The secret is to use CCI 200 primers.

The 130 with 60 grs of either of the H-4831's, CCI-BR2, Rem case has been a very powerful and accurate load in the 270 Win. Work up to this because it is about Max. Drop a couple grs for the 140. If you put either where it is supposed to go it will get-er-done.

I think the 270 Win with a 130gr bullet is about as classic as it gets, when you add in H4831, you make it a super classic deer round. I have used the 140 for elk, but either would have likely done the same job. Good luck, let us know how you make out. Scotty

I would shoot which one your rifle likes best. I load for a friend in his .270 and it really liked Federal Magnum primers, H4831SC, and 130 grain Partition or AccuBond. I think you will be completely satisfied with either one, just use what your rifle likes best!! IMR4350 also worked very well in his rilfe but I did not play with it much as I found a load it like so well so I quite messing with thing!! Good luck and good hunting. 8)

I would see which groups better. If accuracy is equal I would choose the 140s. They have less wind drift, and higher energy at long ranges and are less likely to cause meat damage at close ranges due slower initial velocity.

Id say the 140gr and 57-59gr of H4831sc would be a great start. Also try rl22 or h4350. Good luck. Those bullets have been great for me in WY!

OK Jay. 61 grains of H4831SC-perfect for the 130,s. 60 grains of H4831SC-perfect for the 140,s. rem brass-perfect. cci-200 primers-perfect. At 100 yards these loads print the same place on the target in my rifle. My plan on which bullet weight to use come opening morning of mule deer season is essentially as follows. I will need a left pocket and a right pocket. The left pocket will contain 5 ea 130 accubonds. The right pocket will contain 5 ea. 140 accubonds. On opening morning I will simply perform the wet finger test. If the finger detects wind I will fill the magizine from the right pocket. If the finger detects no wind I will load the magizine from the left pocket. It,s a perfect plan man. I,m getting pumped. Mule deer season is getting closerrrr.

You just have to appreciate a man that uses a scientific approach to hunting!

I haven't had the time to shoot either one but rest assured the one that the gun likes is the one I'll use, and it's 270. Win I do wish I had some cci primers, back when people were going crazy I couldn't find any and had to buy some Win. large rifle, I may just look around to see if I can get some again. hubcap, that's classic ,wet finger test.
I'm one of the lucky ones still giving the man my 40Hrs. soon the weekend will be here. thanks for the input

Ditto
Which ever shoots the best. 140s if both shoot the same. You never know when"DEERZILLA" might show up

I have killed many many deer over the years with the .270 Winchester, 130 Partition and 55 grains of IMR 4350. My velocity from a 24 inch barrel is just over 3000 fps.

I have killed mule deer out to 425 yards with this rifle and load. The 130 grain shoots better in my rifle so the decision is simple. Use whichever bullet is more accurate in your rifle. Accuracy is the important issue.

oldtrader3, I know what your saying. In the 270 the 130,s seem to have a magic to them when it comes to killing deer. If were just talking deer the 130 is my first pick also. I agree with IMR-4350 as well. I used it exclusivly for a long time at a volocity of 3065 from a 22 inch tube. The Partition bullet and IMR-4350 is very much a winning combo . You know it seems to me the AccuBond is a little fickle about seating depth. The Partition is less fussy about seating . I,m still adjusting the seating depth on accubonds looking for that sweet spot .
I,m down to about an inch and looking for those tiny little clusters the Partition gives me at 100 yards. Range day is tommorrow, maybe I,m there and don,t know it yet. :!:

It,s sweeeet. Finally got there. The sweet spot is .063 off the lands for the 140 accub, and .078 off the lands for the 130,s in my rifle. Todays results had three 140,s touching and two 130 touching with third round about an 1/8 inch away. Took four or five trips to the range using different seating depths to find that sweet spot. Prior to today groups were around one to one and a half inches. Yea know that rumer that accubonds are accurate. It,s truuuue.
