So I was reloading today and noticed a strange color on one bag of 160 grn AccuBond 2nds I have, not a big deal. But looking closer I found one was missing a tip, not in the bag either. But I found it interesting of how big a hole is under the tip. Thought I would share.

I have a bag of 225 AB seconds sitting on the shelf that I spotted the tip missing on one or two. They look the same, but bigger. It it kind of neat being able to look inside them and see whats there.

Early on, shortly after they were released, I had a total of three AccuBonds in two boxes without tips. I have not witnessed this phenomenon since. They still shoot fine groups.

I'm really thinking of loading the one with out the tip and shooting it into some milk jugs to see if there is any difference to one with a tip.

Corey,

It appears that the bullets did not get a completely cleaned of the bonding flux they use.
Contact Mike Harris at Nosler Customer Service and they will make it right for you.

Jim wouldn't those orange tips be Ballistic Tips and not Accubonds? I thought "all" the Accubonds had the white tip no matter what caliber or weight. Second would tumbling them to remove the residue be a bad thing? I wouldn't think it would harm them. If any more lose tips were in the batch, they would likely be found out though. Curious minds want to know Jim.

Corey,
I think those tips are made for another ammo company.
My understanding is that when a company orders them from them, they put the color tips that the company wants.

I can't tell from the picture if the tips are red or orange.
Either way, Nosler builds for other companies. Red tip AB's are Winchester and Orange tip AB's are Norma.

The process makes the tips brittle and they can break off. Tumbling won't help.
Call Nosler and they will make it right with you.

To bad they don't make them for someone else with a blue tip. Then I could have a box of shells in red white and blue tips. By the way SPS has 160 ab firsts for seconds price right now.

They wereWinchester over runs I believe. Thanks for the replies. Was not looking for new ones or replacements, they are seconds

Now that is customer service!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's why I like Nosler bullets and mostly use them. However I just don't feel right calling them about seconds. unless there is another reason to do it like for their knowledge or something p

Corey

The red tips were meant for Winchester loadings prior to the coating.
