165gr Speer DeepCurl

The Fusion is a fine bullet that will perform well on game at velocities for which it is rated.

The only difference between the two appears to be a boattail on the Fusion.

It was just a whitetail but this bullet went thru a lot of spine. There's a pic later in the thread to clarify. This same gun and load have now taken three elk, one legal Co. bull and two cows, with no problems. Nice expansion based upon exit holes and internal trauma. One cow did run over 200 yds with a double lung shot but there was a spray of heavy blood the size of a door mat every time her feet hit the snow covered ground. Tough animals those elk.

The Deep Curl is not really a bonded bullet as advertised. It is similar to the old Remington Power Lokt and current day Speer gold dot or Federal Fusion. It is a copper plated lead bullet.

As such, it requires high SD and relatively low velocity to perform well.

The copper electro plated "jacket" does not support the expanding mushroom like a 0.049 or more thick, soft annealed copper jacket does in a bonded bullet.

The Federal Fusion (same as Speer Deep Curl) is a good product for the money. Just dont push them too fast. (If you have to be careful of impact velocity it is not really a premium bullet). They work though Id rather have a North Fork, TBBC, Swift, Kodiak, Woodleigh, or AccuBond (about in that order, too!).

I have heard the whole Deep Curl line is to be discontinued. Anyone know what's going on?

It's true. I emailed them myself. Bunch of idiots! I guess my business goes to Nosler and Sierra.

I hate to hear the Deep Curls are being discontinued. I use the .44 240 gr. softpoint Deep Curl in my old Ruger 44 mag. carbine loaded to the max. I have shot 2 hogs directly in the front as that was all I could see as they bore down on me. One was about 5 yards from me when the bullet hit just ahead of the shoulder and continued out just beside the tail. The boar dropped in its tracks to my intense relief.
In both cases the bullets penetrated lengthwise the full length of the hogs with no bullet recovery where many Hollow Points tend to break up.
I also carry my .44 pistol loaded with Deep Curls as penetration is the name of game when you must shoot a big hog.
Sounds like a good elk bullet for my .300 Win. if I could get my hands on some.
