My buddy uses them in his 30-06 as well, the combined technology to be exact.
Hes taken a couple spike bulls and bucks with that combo and he has had nothing but great success with them, very accurate from a factory ADL 700 w/22" factory sporter barrel, usually 1/2-3/4" with H4350. Exits on the elk even at closer range, (when I say closer range, that means inside 300 yards) which kinda surprised me a bit. I would still use the 180g nbt for elk size, but with the lower velocity of the 06, the 168g doesn't seem to blow up a whole lot.
I killed a whitetail doe at about 75 yds. Not exactly testing the long range capability of the gun or the load.
I switched to the 168 from the 165 BT because I have had them blow up at close ranges.
The 168 has a better balistic coefficient and can be shot at least as fast as the 165. The longer taper means that you can seat the bullet just a hair further out - leaving plenty of room for your favorite propellant. I settled on W760 as I have plenty of it. In testing I was able to go up to 58.5 gr with no signs of excess pressure. I settled on 58 gr as it seems to be quite accurate and plenty fast. (Not sure how fast yet - the chronograph is on the christmas list.)
So far my best 100 yd group is around 1" (the gun is likely more capable than I am
