First time post long time looker on this forum. I noticed there seems to be lots of interest in the 17 Hornet. I picked up a Savage Lightweight Varminter last fall and I love it. I finally got to shoot something with it last month. It was almost four to the day since I got my first red fox. I called this one in about twenty minutes into the stand and shot it at about 30 yards. I ran maybe 10 yards or so and piled up. It had a small entry hole and no exit. Exactly the performance I had hoped for. I will try to post a picture and hopefully it works.

adm1977,

Welcome to the forum. It is a great thing to have you aboard. That 17 hornet worked very well, just as it should.

Adam, congrats on the fox buddy! Looks like a perfect little varminter for exactly that reason! Great picture man!

Welcome to the forum, that's a great looking fox you got there. The 17 Hornet must be really nice to play with, for handloading a pound of powder must last a long time :)

And that means alot right now!

I shot that fox with Hornady Factory loads. When I got the gun no handloading components where available. I have since picked up everything I need to start reloading it. I can't wait to try out the little Nosler BT in it. I found data in the new Hodgdon annual manual. It is a blast to shoot. My wife and kids love it. We shoot rotten apples at 100 yards and the just explode. You can see them explode through the scope. I guess it is a fun way to make applesauce.

Glad to have you aboard Adam.

I love my 17 Hornet. I also have a savage.

Just wanted to let everyone adm are my initials. I didn't want everyone to think it is short for Adam. My name is Andy. It's sort of funny because my brothers name is Adam.

Good one man! Everyone fell for it!

BTW what scope did you choose for your 17 H?

Shooting the rotten apples with the .17 does sound like fun. Congrats on the fox, and welcome aboard!

I have a Leupold vx2 3-9 40 on it. I picked it up on sale at the end of last year. I have it in Leupold quick detach Weaver style rings so I can take it on and off quick.
