:?: While it looks as though I can handload this bullet to almost 2800 fps in my '98, I was wondering the Forums' opinion on the veracity of this bullet on Roosevelt elk.

I agree. Only problem is that the Partition in .323 dia is 200 grns, and I don't think that I'll have a very usable trajectory or enough velocity to cause the Partion to expand.

You're best bet for a dependable premium bullet with good penetration and ballistic co-efficient would be the Barnes 180 gr. triple-shock boat tail. I've had good experiences with their accuracy. I shy away from using them at ultra velocities (over 3000fps.) but at 8mm velocities I would choose them. At least untill Nosler makes an A/B or PT in that weight class.
Good Luck & Good Hunting.

If you're bent out of shape on using it I would strongly suggest picking your shots carefully.
If it were me -easy- 200 grain AccuBond at 2650-2700 fps and no worries!

I would go with the 200 gr AB in your 8mm Mauser for deer, bear, and elk.

I agree with POP, the 200 AB at 2650-2700 should be good enough even for shots out to 200 yards or so. I hunted for a couple years as a youngster with a 300 Savage throwing a 150grainer out there at 2670 fps (chronographed) in a Savage 99 lever action. I killed two elk with it and though it wasnt with as much authority as my 300 Win kills, they died and rather quickly. One was at about 85 yards and the other at 155 or 160 yards. That 200 grainer in 8mm should do that and more. Are you hunting in brush or open country...most Roosevelt I have heard of are relatively close shots.

I have already shot a moose with my 8x57 M700 "Classic" using the 200 AccuBond at around 2650. It was a 275 yard shot and the AB performed perfectly. Expansion was good, leaving a 2" exit fron a slightly angled shot through the lungs. The moose never moved out of his tracks, and his eyes were glazed by the time I got to him. The internal lung damage was impressive. I would not hesitate to use this bullet in a 8x57 for elk. BTW, The 200 Partition will expand just fine at 8x57 velocities also, but in my rifle, the AB is a bit more accurate. Regards, Eagleye.
