I got this spike on the 17th. He was about 175yrds. I was using my 300RUM and 200ABs. The shot was a tad high, but it took out a 1.5" section of his spine, punched a hole through the opposite shoulder blade, and lodged in the skin. So I have my first recovered 200AB as well. My Unlce was surprised and the LACK of blood shot from the bullet. He did mention that there was a bit of a fine bone dust around, but oh well. Nosler, thanks for making such a great bullet.

Congratulations on your bull elk. He will be great eating for you this winter.
The 200 gr AB looks pretty good. Thanks for posting the pictures.

Good for you! Elk are great, and that combo of the .300 RUM & 200 gr AccuBond is getting to be a real well favored load...

Congrats on your first elk !! That bull will be some fine eating this winter.

The A-bonds are impressive... to take out that amount of bone and still look that good

BTW - for those who don't know about elk hunting - in some areas only "spike" bulls like this are legal game during the general season. That's the way it is here in central Washington where I live and hunt. Not all elk hunters get to go after those big 6x6 & 7x7 herd bulls like in all the magazine articles and TV hunting shows. Most of us get to hunt cows or spikes.

Regards, Guy

Great stuff and congrats on your first bull elk and I really like those pictures of the 200gr Accubonds. Thanks for taking the time to post the pictures.

Ditto,
Nice bull and great shooting. Thanks for the info and pictures. You've got a lot of good eating ahead of you from this young bull. I've been thinking about trying the 200 gr. A/B and now I'm sure. Did you happen to get the retained weight on the A/B?
Good Hunting

True, Idaho has "Spike" elk hunts as well, but this wasn't one of them. The only restriction I had was the antlers had to be more than six inches long. Fortunately I took him cause I didn't see another bull until two days after the season had closed. Of course those two bull I saw then were very nice, 5x5 and a 3x4 I think. I'm still happy with my spike.

I'll weigh the bullet when I return to my place in CA. I'm staying at my Mother's in ID right now.

The recovered 200AB weighed in at 117gns, so about 59% weight retention. Pretty good considering it went through the spine and a shoulder blade.

AccuBond in my 300Win mag was a top performer on deer using a 180gr AB. They open up, hold together enough to give good penetration and make a good wound channel. One of the better bonded bullets.

Man you blew his head off !

All kidding aside congrats on your first elk man ! 8) Thanks for sharing your story and pics !
