Got my 2013 Colorado Cow Tag coming via the mail soon. Now to try out that 200 AB in my 300 RUM. I've been waiting on the chance to that for awhile. 8)

Congrats on the tag, and yes, I'd say you have "enough gun" for the job!

Best of luck on your hunt. Am hoping to put some elk meat in the freezer this fall myself.

Don I can already taste those Elk steaks this coming fall. Congratulations on drawing the tag, I can't wait for the photos and story.

Blessings,
Dan

Nice. Congrats. Waiting for July for my results.

Thanks to all for the comments. I'm hunting 4th season Cows with friends and my two nephews whom I haven't hunted with for about 20 years. Everyone is excited as all nine of us were successful getting our License.

Most likely the 35 Whelen will be making the trip too!!

Nice, congrats on the tag Don! Way to go buddy. Hope the Whelen gets to play first string for you!

The Whelen will do what Whelens are supposed to do, without a doubt.

"Most likely the 35 Whelen will be making the trip too!!"

Excellent choice! 8)

Well, to clarify the gun choice it's like this, the 300 RUM is the primary choice for the most part but if there is Black Timber the Whelen is going in with me!!

Congrats on the tag. I seen some good picks of a dressed out large bull elk a few years back taken with a 200gr AB with a 300RUM....sweet double lung. Small entrance -HUGE EXIT !!

Me, I will be draw for cow elk this year at home, and it will be either the old trust Sako m75ss 300WM with 180gr AB reloads or my Sako 338-06AI with 225gr AB's or might use the new Sako m75ss 270WSM I bought prefer XMAS with 140gr AB reloads.

DECISIONS, DECISIONS !!

I will be drawn this year for bull moose but the only rifle I take to moose camp is my 300WM....tradition since the rifle was new in 1997.

Good luck on your hunt!!

Don congats on the tag. As much time as you have spent getting the 300 rum dialed in it deserves a shot, no pun intended.

Bill

OU812,
You said it well I have spent a lot of time with the 300 RUM developing loads. It will get the first nod. Currently I'm testing Reloader 33 Powder with the 200 AB and getting increased velocity over Reloader 25. The good news is I have a proven load with Reloader 25 so the pressure is off trying to get all that done prior to the hunt. My current load will bring the hammer down when opportunity presents itself.

Looking forward to putting some ELK meat in the freezer.

Don

I will second what Bill said! You put time into that 200 AB for the 300 RUM and hope you can take an elk with it! Hopefully next year i will take a nice bull with my 300 RUM. Think I will try the 210 ABLR since its shooting as good as the 200 AB.

WC,
I may have missed a post on your results testing the 210. What results did you get?
