2013 SPRING BEAR

Young gal and her dad just sent me a text that her first evening on stand and her first time out for big game were uneventful. I replied to her that is what hunting can be alot of and just be persitent and something will happen. They said they will come back later in the week. Thank goodness we have Sunday hunting.

Patience is hard to teach, and a lot of times I think our "hunting stories" have much to do with that. New hunters may not realize that for every successful shot at big game, there may be many hours, or even days of hunting.

Well stated, Guy. It is difficult for young hunters (it was difficult for us) to be patient for the shot. More than one hunter has been spoiled by success on his/her first time out. It used to disappoint me when a new fisherman caught a steelhead or a big spring salmon on their first trip. I've heard on a few occasions, "These aren't hard to catch! I don't understand what all the hype is about." I've lived long enough to see many of those individuals give up fishing because they caught their only big fish on that first trip. Hunters can have some of the same attitude if they don't learn to appreciate the hunt itself.

More visitors at the bait today. Hopefully the weather will cooperate this weekend and my cousin and his daughter can make it out to sit on stand for a night or 2.

Nice pictures.
Best of luck to the young lady.

Looks like the young lady will not be able to make it back before the spring season closes on the 30th of this month. There are still some visitors coming around though. The fall season re-opens Aug 25th and I'm not sure if she will want to bait or hang around the saskatoon and chokecherry bushes with the hopes of stalking in on one. In a few weeks our draw results will be out so that may shuffle the cards for the fall bear hunt as well. It was fun to help her out regardless of the outcome.

Some great animals, that's for certain. Too bad the young lady can't make it this spring.

Hopefully your cousin's daughter will get back out!!
Still happy that a young person got a taste hopefully she will be back.
