Had a great hunt with 280 Remington (Mike) in Nebraska, resulting in my 264 SuperGrade getting to tag a 5x3 mulie buck.

215 yards, shot in his bed, with 140gr Accubonds from the 264 Win Mag.

This deer incredibly absorbed 4 shots to the chest from the 264 before finally expiring. It was pretty messy when we took the hide off.

Told you that you should have sent me that rifle! See, it practically doesn't work on mulies. Congratulations, Tom. Excellent specimen. You did well.

Lol!

I've never seen an animal take the damage this deer took and not die immediately. The pictures I took of the shoulder with the hide off are pretty, um, messy.

Great Tod, nice looking Mulie. (y) The good DrMike is still after that rifle. Thinking maybe you should have used the 35 Whelen you would have had more meat to eat.

Lol, you are undoubtedly correct, but how could I go mulie hunting and NOT take the 264????

I mean, the thing was made specifically for that kind of hunting!

:)

Very nice.

It's amazing how much damage a mulie can take and keep on truckin.

Well, I don't think you'll want that rifle now that I discovered the handiwork of the American Airlines baggage gorillas...

Per policy (on their site), they aren't liable if there's no damage to the hard case, which there isn't.

I can open a claim, but I'm guessing it's a waste of time. Guess I gotta make a plan to replace the stock.

Tom

I am sorry this happened to you Tom. I would open the claim, nothing ventured, nothing gained. Take plenty of pictures, of the case and gun, including pictures of the gun when it was in Neb. We have had similar damage on two separate trips to/from Africa. Our claim (s) were paid both times.

I'm going to try. I'm not hopeful, but I'm going to try. Not today, but I will try.

That stinks, Tom. I'm with Europe in recommending filing a claim. While the stock can be repaired, I would personally prefer a new stock (and the more so since you will undoubtedly be shipping it to me for future evaluation). That sure stinks. I'm grieved with you at the lack of respect for the goods of those flying with the airline.

Sounds like a great hunt with some fine shooting. Sorry to hear about the damage to your rifle. Certainly purse a claim.

I didn't get to the airport, but I talked to someone with the airline who made it basically sound like, "Yeah, they will take a claim, but there are at least two provisions where they'll likely deny the claim."

Ugh.

Have to call to see what my Homeowner's will do. Hopefully my added coverage for my guns will help me out. A buddy of mine said he had this happen and they replaced his gun completely. THAT could get interesting.....

Someone should be wearing a knot on their head after treating a firearm like that! I know an excellent knot maker!! I would file a claim also. Take lots of photographs before and after along with the rifle case. Write a complete document of which airline and plane you flew on and the dates and times. Your homeowners policy could likely help out as stated if the airlines out, but the first place I would file is with the airline and then only with my homeowners if nothing came from the first claim. You like the rifle and only need a new stock and if they wanted to replace the whole thing I think you could get them to just replace the stock if that was your preference. It doesn't make sense for them to replace the whole thing! You might have to check the scope out to see if it's functioning correctly. If the rifle took that kind of beating, the scope had to take a pounding as well.

Tom,

Congratulations on your hunt. Sorry to see what AA did to your rifle.

Tom sorry to here that your rifle was damaged. I flew to Hawaii on AA and of my brand new luggage bags had a large rip in it which I had to repair before the flight home. The conveyor belts and other equipment they use can be hard on things for sure.

I just saw this, Tom, and I am just sick...that was an absolutely georgeous stock and, I think, the primary reason you bought this rifle...I know for certain it is the reason some of us coveted it...I also hope you get some relief from the airline but it will be very very difficult to replicate that stock...

Cheers/bg

Airline doesn't give a bleep about it, bottom line. Never even drove out to the airport to make the official claim after calling them. I talked to my insurance company and they are putting in a claim and we'll see what the adjusters come up with.

I'm having a devil of a time finding sales of 264 SuperGrades, but a 7mmRM supergrade is 1399.99 msrp, which sounds good to me if they're willing to kick out a check for that amount, less my deductible.

My local insurance guy seems optimistic on that front, but is proceeding with caution in case the company decides to surcharge me if I take a settlement on the claim.

So....if they're willing to do that, I might wind up keeping the 264 oiled and stored till I can save my pennies and get it restocked (I know a guy.... ;) ) and then I think something in the 338 flavor is calling to me.

But.....horse stays before the cart. I have to hear from the adjusters.

Tom,

I'm sorry to see the damage done to that beautiful rifle.

Before you send it to DrMike I hope the airlines will approve your claim and make you whole.

Vince
