2023 Burn Rate Chart

Depends on more than you think

Case volume cartridge capacity bullet weight barrel volume etc.. watch the Hornady pod cast and see
to a point it does but burn rate is still burn rate. We have charts that vary but the variances are slight...and that's probably some intangibles at work there...plus differing authors etc.
Many factors can contribute to an actual burn rate but no matter the volume, bullet weight, etc...you aren't going to make H50BMG burn faster than IMR3031

The intangibles can make a powder slower or faster....even a specific rifle can have that effect too but you won't change the burn rate far from it's listing in the burn chart provided you're using it for whatever the powder was intended to load.
If you're outside that window than anything can happen and none of it good.

where does H-450 fall on that chart?? I have some and it works great in the 257R using 120gr Swift A-frames. The 2 poor shots was me. When I tried I could do even better. No signs of over pressure and the fps is real. done so a number of times. Must use a mag primer or the group goes to heck and SD climbs way up there. I know they quite making it a number of years ago but it is the best for this bullet/load.

I used some H450 in a 243 Win years ago and your right, if you didn't use a magnum primer the groups opened up. Dan.
