I’ll keep an eye on this group of elk, best guesss is north of 400 animals. They are about 1000 yards off the road but I didn’t have my spotting scope to get a good pic. Part of the herd came through one of my fences a couple nights ago. The long line of little dots is one herd of elk. About 3 miles from the house. Center of the photo, big willow on the left moving to the west (right) to the group of small willows.
Jorey, you probably recognize Glass Hill in the back ground.

Found these guys on my way back to the house, a neighbor has suggested if I do the work they’ll give me their LOP tags next year. Same unit as above, might have to do it to help with the garden raiders. These guys all look like they are related and could use a little cull work.

Both pieces I might have access to are pretty small by western standards, a section or two. Both however are near our town which is over run with mule deer. Some of them actually drift up into the hills a little so a tag filling opportunity. Both are the kind of place you can cover in short order on any given day. At some point during the season you’ll have an opportunity to fill a tag. Both pieces should be hunted like you all do back east. Have a couple of stand locations slip in for the morning and evening hunts and don’t risk bumping animals off the property kind of thing. I’m use to covering 8 to 10 miles with 3 to 5000 feet of elevation gain in a day. I’ll need to be patient.Sounds like a tough job, but someone has to do it.

The two pieces of property are about 10 miles apart but the LOP tags are only for each specific property, I can’t put in for a lop tag and hunt both pieces of ground.
I think my plan is to put in for the regular draw, I would still have permission to hunt those pieces if I happen to draw. IF I don’t draw but list the lop tag as my second choice I can still hunt near home with a decent chance of success. We will see how lucky I get with draws, already have my app in for Idaho.

Nicely done Dale. Mice with a handgun with open sights is impressive. Years back I shot a couple mice off the bird feeder that was maybe 75' with my Remington 541T-HB and a Leupold VX-II 4-12x40mm. I always thought that was cool but you take the cake buddy.

Bunch grass, Junipers and sage brush. Always liked hunting ducks in that kind of country. No waders and a Chessy? Can’t tell with the lighting!

The bulk of my handgun hunting is on varmints like mice, ground squirrels and rock chucks. Have taken a few raccoons, badgers and coyotes too. Of course rattlesnakes too.

Spot and stalk duck hunting so waders not typically required. I have a lab and a chessie, sometimes I run together, sometimes I alternate which one I use. Really good winter deer country and blue ribbon trout water
