After not being able to get out and hunt last week for the WV opener I was able to get out this morning after I finished chores. Went down to a flat below the house where turkeys travel. Got there about 9:15 and made of few clucks on each of the 3 slates I had with me. Waited about 10 minutes and made a couple clucks and set the call down. When I looked back up I saw a head pop up over the hill in a dip that comes up the side of the mountain then another and another. 3 gobblers and 2 Jake’s all silent not a peep out of them. Took about 5 minutes for them to separate and give me a shot. Of course the one I shot flopped and went down over the mountain and the chase was on. Only rolled about 50 yards. Weighed 18lbs with a 10 inch beard and 1 inch spurs. First year with tss and a red dot on my 20 gauge.

Kings of spring is a wrap. We can harvest 3 toms in Washington, first was 9.75” beard weighed #21 1 1/16 spurs, second was 8 5/8 #21 3/4” spurs , final bird this am 8.75 “ beard 3/4” spurs. Wrapped, cleaned and in recliner by 8 am. Good luck to all on rest of the season of harvest.

Been looking for a bear the last few days. Saw a good one on Sunday evening, but I had no shot opportunity . Came back yesterday evening and found the same bear in the same small green patch, 75 yard snap shot with my Mauser 98 in 8x57, 160gr TTSX at 3000 fps in the lungs. Bear did a 30 yard death run and done deal. It's one of the bigger ones I've handled to date. Squared 6'9". I'm also impressed with the damage and expansion I got out of this bullet. Dropped the boar off at the taxidermist this AM. I'll post some of the pics of damage in the 8mm experience forum.
