22 BR

Several of the dedicated rat-shooters here went straight to the .20 BR.

Fast, and really accurate...

My Ruger #1 is an 8 twist and throated for the heavier bullets, but will shoot 55 grain varmint bullets fine. Using Benchmark powder with the 55's you will get over 3700 fps with a 26+ inch barrel. For the heavier bullets, Varget, 8208 or VVN135 are great options. With the lighter bullets you will get close to 22-250 velocities, better accuracy and longer barrel life. The 75-80 grain bullets will give you high BC's for the longer shots and still travel at over 3000 fps.

Easy to form from 6BR brass (norma or lapua). If you are using a bushing die I would suggest taking it down in stages. I have about 400 rounds down the barrel of mine and am using the same 200 pieces of Lapua brass without any problems from them. This rifle will always be with me on any p-dog shoot.
