A friend has a savage that was his dads. He has plenty of brass, but no dies, and .227 bullets as of yet.I wanted to see if anyone had a set of dies and bullets laying around collecting dust, before he orders them. Lee

For what it's worth, I've read that the standard 55 gr .224" bullets can work well from a .22 Highpower, despite the difference in bore size.

There have been several discussions about this over on 24 Hour Campfire, mostly in the Savage Collector's section. John Barsness, who posts there as Mule Deer, is the one who clued me in on the .224 bullets working pretty well. Better than the 70 gr .227" Hornady bullets in some cases.

Dad has an old Savage 99 .22 Highpower and a limited amount of factory ammo for it. I don't recall either of us ever handloading for it though. I'd like to someday, just for the heck of it.

FWIW, Guy

Lee I have 200+ of the old Speer 70 grain .228 Semi Spitzers I would be willing to part with for the right price. Unfortunately I just sold my dies to a cousin who bought an old 1912 vintage 99 takedown 22 Hi-power.
