IF I can get 2800fps, it would closely resemble a 225gr AB out of a 338wm.
Of course this is all assuming it shoots accurately.
I'm wondering what a realistic MV would be out of this 24" tube.
Winchester claims 2840fps from their factory power point loading. Word on the street is it aint that fast.... 8)
I really like the flight characteristics and BC of this monster Sierra!
Also curious about recoil...........

thoughts?

The only thing that would concern me is that the 220 Sierra is a long puppy. If seated to 2.850" (which is my boys' max magazine length) it would eat up a lot of powder space. This is why I went with the 200 grain Partition at 2910 fps with 65.5 gr of IMR 4350.

Chet,
I get phenomenal accuracy with the 220 grain GK from my 325 WSM (0.3 inches). However, velocities are somewhat low (2500 - 2650 fps). Recoil is modest for me. I opted for the 200 grain PT in my rifle, which gives me very good velocity and good accuracy, plus it drops elk and moose with authority.

AHHHHHHH yes..... powder space...... that's important.
I'm starting to think the AB/PT is the way to go.
The PT aint too far behind the AB in the BC department.
In fact the AB doesn't really out-perform the PT until about the 600 yard mark..... even then it's minimal.
And the design of the PT would likely leave more room for powder.......
Boat-tails are cool...... but it always seems to be a little easier to work up a load with a flat base design.
okay okay okay I'll order me some 200gr PT's!!!!!
I'll start with RL17 and IMR4350.

thanks guys!!!

I and my son shoot Kimber Montana's in 325 WSM (24" barrels) - The only load I had a chance to chrono was 63.0 of IMR 4007 SSC which was 2700-2714 fps and 3/4" 3 shot groups - I now shoot 65.0 IMR 4007 SSC to 3/4" 4 shot groups using 215M primers/WW nickel cases/220 SBT - I just necked up some Norma 300 WSM brass to 325 and shot 2 groups with the same accuracy (all at 100 yd) but have not had the opportunity to chrono those either but no pressure signs whatsoever - I initially wanted to shoot 200 AB but they would not shoot well at all in either Montana and after checking out the 220's I don't see any reason to look back - recoil is absolutely comfortable in a 7lb rifle

Seems like the 220gr GK was made for the 8mm REM Mag and should be a great game hunting bullet in the 325WSM. I read a little on the Alaska forums where a few folks have had really good luck with the 220GK and the 325WSM with 4007 and RL17 I believe. Good luck, that 220 at 2800 would be a great shooting/hunting load with alot of oomph.. Scotty
