Well I went and jumped on the AR bandwagon after giving my buddies
every excuse I could why I don't need one.
Although its a Carbine model 16" barrel and its basic use is home defense
I want to reload for it as I have for everything else.
I've read most of the 223 posts and such but I know there are many here
that know every in and out of reloading this round. 1:7 twist is what I have
69gr up factory stuff shoots fairly well.I need to purchase dies brass ect.
Suggestions please. Skid

Most will shoot the 69-77 gr bullets very well even in used military brass from the Brass Guys. With that barrel length the middle to slowish powders should work best. I just load them all close the mag box length.

I'd stick to 55grn for economics and pick a good powder that is readily available in your location. No real secrets...the 223 is easy to load for. Don't expect fantastic groups with an off the shelf carbine, but it should be plenty accurate for its intended usage.

For dies you may want to consider Small Base Dies(RCBS). They are not always needed but it is a good choice for reliable feeding/extraction. I mostly shoot 55gr bullets with win 748 powder and SRM(mag) primers.

I love the 75gr Hornady BTHP because you can load them to magazine length.

I accidentally found an unbelievable load way down the velocity ladder. Way down.

I would show you a 300yd target but you might not believe me.

21.5gr of AR Comp.

16" 1:8 barrel. LC 16 brass and the primer hasn't mattered.
