What do you think about this load?

40 grain BT at 3500 fps?

Opinions? Max range? big enough bullet?

POP,
At that velocity, Absolutely !! Wouldn't hesitate one bit on using that on yotes.....range....hmmm..250 to 300 max?? knowing how the winds are up there

It does really well....

Pop,

I would look at either the 50 gr or 55 gr BT's.
You might even consider the 60 gr BT, should make for a nice long range yote thumper.

Jim you're probably right but I was looking for the easy way out. The savage loves this load and it will be a while before I can go out and play with the heavies.
Initial test with the 50 gr BT's shown very little promise as opposed to the 40's.

Besides I still have the Savage Tactical in 25-06...
100 gr BT's at 3400+fps with RL 25.... Ha ha!

RE-25 behind a 100 grainer you say???? I shoot a lot of RE-22 with the 100 NBT... just wondering what load you're shooting in the .25-06, I'm guessing around 58-60 grains?

By the way... I shy away from the .223 with any bullet as a general purpose coyote round. Makes a decent enough calling rifle I suppose... but I liken it to a .243 for deer. It'll do the job 90% of the time, but when the chips are down I'd much rather have something a bit larger. ~josh
