Just scoped my first .243 and ordering componants. I'd really like to run the 90 grain AccuBond, but I'm having problems locating any in stock.

Any suppliers have them in stock? I've check the usual big onlines.

Thanks in advance,

Wade

Wade,

Welcome to the forum. I'm certain one of the fellows will chime in if he is aware of components. You can always check SPS to see if there are any seconds. Have you tried Midway USA or MidSouth? Graf & Sons and Huntington are other possibilities. What rifle did you pick up? What did you select for a scope? If you get a chance, give us a picture of your rifle and scope. There are a lot of gun cranks here that love to see pictures of rifles.

X2- Welcome to the forum buddy. Look forward to seeing pictures. That 90gr AB is really going to have a strong following amongst the 243/6mm guys when it hits the market. Scotty

After a little more digging it appears they haven't reached the streets yet. I was under the impression they were avl, but on back order..I have a box of 75 grain Vmax to play with until I decide what direction to go for deer.

Tikka T3 lite stainless...Leupold VX3 2.5x8 was mounted yesterday.

I load for my friends Tikka T3 (300WM) and was impressed enough to buy one in .243.

Thanks for the welcome, some may recognize me from other boards

Sounds like a great rifle and one excellent scope. That is one of my favorites on my 338WM. Looking forward to the 90gr AB's. Should be an awesome bullet out of the 243. Scotty

Scotty, have you tried to laod those 80 gr Nosler BT's yet? They are really accurate in my former .243. for varmits up to coyotes.

I have not tried them yet Charlie. I worked for a load with 100gr PT's in my sons rifle and haven't figured out his varmint load yet. I am thinking they will make a nice practice and woodchuck killer for him as well.

I need to get back to the drawing board with the 100gr PT's though. Someone has mentioned getting some excellent speed out of the 95-100gr bullets with RL17, and I happen to have some on the shelf. I am thinking of giving it a try. Scotty

Spent Wednesday on the range with the little Marlin XS7 that I bought for my GF's son. We were testing the 95 grain BT's that I got from Scotty. I am going to recheck the same loads that I used of R17 with this bullet, but was getting readings over 3200fps. Everything else I shot; R19 and H1000, shot at the speeds I expected through the chronograph. I need to verify before I tell anyone what the powder charge was. This will be a lazer beam with the 95 grain BT if I get the same velocity and can bring the group size under an inch. I didn't shoot the groups, so I can't verify how accurate the load really is (about 2 inches with him shooting).

The 70 grain BT with 42 grains of Varget is close to a one-hole groups and clocks close to 3600.

That 70gr load seems like a zinger. Wonder if RL17 would work for them as well?

Looking forward to the verification of the loads. I might go home and load some of them tonight with 100gr PT's and try them tomorrow. Whats another rifle on the stack anyhow? Scotty

I tried several of the powders that had similar burn rates to Varget for the 70 grain bullets, (4895, R15 and 2520). The Varget won hands-down in velocity and accuracy. I think R17 might be a bit too slow of a burn for the 70 grain bullet.

The new SuperPerformance powder that Hodgen has out is supposed to be good for lighter bullets in the WSM's and calibers like .243. I have a pound of it, but doubt it will beat the speed or accuracy of Varget.

Hi Wade welcome to the forum, It sound like you have yourself a real nice rig there. The Leupold scope is top shelf :)
I think that you will really enjoy the crowd here it is a good group of people

Blessings,
Dan

Welcome Wade that sure sounds like a fantastic set-up even if it is a 243! See you are barely here two minutes and someone is giving you some grief. My forum name should provide you with the why on that one. I'll apologize in advance. Welcome though and as stated guys here are great with sharing knowledge.

257 Ackley another one you might try is the Hodgdon H100V in your 243. That is what I use in my son's Ruger MKII 6mm with the 22" barrel and he is getting 3160 fps with the 90 gr. E-Tip. I have not shot that powder in my rifle as IMR4350 has proven extremely accurate and it's hard to change when if I do my part I can shoot a .35 or .40 3-shot 100 yard group with a fixed 6x42 Leupold. I might have to cave in though and load a few for my 6mm just to see how they work. The Hodgdon manual shows H100V providing higher fps than most of the powders.

Brian gets some really great speed and accuracy out of 100V and his 243AI. It is very impressive. Kinda makes me wanna ream out my boys rifle! Scotty

+1 for the 70gr BT and Varget! 42gr was the go to load when the rifle was a 243 Win. I now use 44gr of Varget since AIing the rifle
